A new ‘Prince of Persia’ game is announced by surprise (and it looks amazing)

The Rogue Prince of Persia, a roguelite developed by Evil Empire, which may sound familiar to you because they are indeed the creators of Dead Cells.

Sometimes, video games wake up and remind us that forgotten franchises, in good hands, can have a second life. It happened with ‘Rayman’ (‘Rayman legends’ always in my heart) and lately with ‘Prince of Persia’, a franchise that had been neglected for decades and suddenly came back into the spotlight with ‘The lost crown’. And the best part is that Prince of Persia fans won’t have to wait much longer to see if it was a last gasp of life or if it has truly been resurrected.

Persiacase

‘Prince of Persia’ has found its own identity after years of being a pseudo-‘Assassin’s Creed’ and it shows in ‘The Rogue Prince of Persia’, a roguelite developed by Evil Empire, which you may recognize because they are, indeed, the creators of ‘Dead Cells’. And if that one was already a kind of ‘Prince of Persia’, now this one is “Dead Cellea”.

And seeing how great that game was, it’s not a bad thing at all. We will be able to enjoy early access to ‘The Rogue Prince of Persia’ on May 14th, and its first trailer is visually stunning. That’s for sure. Now, what’s important is the gameplay, and if it’s as dynamic as it promises, we could be looking at another great title in the franchise this year.

Here, the key is parkour. Climbing walls, running anywhere, being the master of your movements. Because if you intend to beat this game only by slashing and hacking… I’m afraid you’re going to have a problem. The idea is for the game to grow with the help of the community, improve, and become the roguelite of our dreams. Only time will tell if the journey back to Persia, after all, has been worth it.

In the new ‘Prince of Persia,’ you are going to hear a non-human voice… but only for a short time

The change has been positive; the world seems to agree that its gameplay is fabulous. However, all that glitters is not gold.

The release of the new ‘Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown‘ has surprised everyone because, suddenly, it has pulled out of its hat a Metroidvania that has reignited the excitement among gamers for a saga long forgotten in time. Not in vain, its first installment is from 1989, and it had been without an original game since 2010. The change has been positive; the world seems to agree that its gameplay is fabulous… But all that glitters is not gold.

Robot of Persia

In reality, it’s a very minor but hilarious oversight: when programming the game, the developers decided to use robotic voices for some characters (the famous text-to-speech widely used, for example, on TikTok, replacing the traditional Loquendo), and later replace them with the voices of the real actors. So far, so good and quite standard.

However, there’s a character lost in the sands that slipped through. Meet Kalux, a Wak-Wak tree that restores your health and helps illuminate your path in the Catacombs. It’s only eight lines, but they sound robotic, no name is associated with him in the credits, and they clash with the polished perfection of the rest of the game. Of course, Ubisoft has already rushed to say they will fix it as soon as possible with a patch.

It must be said that, indeed, it is a minor oversight: there are 12,000 lines of text in total in five different languages, with a good handful more of subtitled languages. It will be at the end of January or the beginning of February, so if you want to listen and find the slip-up yourself, you still have time. Just make sure that the game is in English, because the rest of the languages are perfectly implemented!
