We have news about the new Resident Evil Remake, and they’re not good

The publisher will announce a big game before the end of the year, a title scheduled for 2024, but which will not belong to the survival horror franchise.

Few things in the industry have been more well-received than the Resident Evil Remakes that Capcom has been delivering. They started with the Resident Evil 2 Remake in 2019, followed by the RE3 in 2020, and now in 2023, we’ve received the RE4 Remake.

A significant part of CAPCOM’s game release streak included the Resident Evil remakes. The publisher’s strategy of bringing back classic survival horror games bore fruit with the critically acclaimed release of Resident Evil 2 in January 2019.

Undoubtedly, fans were in agreement, and the public purchased over 12.6 million units of the game by June 2023.

The second of the Resident Evil remakes, Resident Evil 3, received a similar reception from players. While this remake didn’t sell as much as the previous one, 7.6 million units still undoubtedly mark it as a success.

And this year, in 2023, fans were able to enjoy the remake of Resident Evil 4. The critical reception remained high, so much so that it’s a nominee for Game of the Year at The Game Awards.

The future of Remakes… up in the air?

What will become of the Resident Evil remakes? Will CAPCOM go straight to 5, or will they tackle Code Veronica first? Last year, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi responded “perhaps” to the latter question. A few hours ago, a rumor about a Code Veronica remake project surfaced on 4Chan.

However, the well-known CAPCOM leaker, Dusk Golem, stated that it was false and told fans not to expect any Resident Evil remakes for the coming year.

As a final note, they confirmed that the publisher will announce a major game before the year’s end, a title set for 2024, but it won’t belong to the survival horror franchise.

Could CAPCOM be preparing a Monster Hunter announcement for The Game Awards? It would be unexpected, considering the saga’s 20th anniversary is in March 2024. That’s when most fans believe the new game will be announced.

Resident Evil 4 Remake was greatly liked, both by critics and players. And it’s no surprise; it’s a truly fantastic game. Yet another demonstration that Capcom is in excellent form. But… how many units have been sold? We have the total, and it’s mind-blowing.

Capcom has released its financial results for the second quarter of its current fiscal year (FY23), and in the newly published report, the publisher has included updated sales figures for the Resident Evil franchise.

After seeing these numbers, we can confirm that Resident Evil is one of the most significant franchises in the entire history of video games, both in terms of influence and sales.

150 million games sold for the most famous zombie franchise

According to the report, over 150 million units of the Resident Evil series had been sold by September 30, 2023. In July of the same year, Capcom reported selling 146 million units of the franchise.

This means that Capcom managed to sell an additional 4 million units of the franchise in three months. And if you think all of these are from the RE 4 Remake, you are mistaken.

When comparing the unit sales of the publisher’s best-selling title between the second and first quarters, a significant portion of these additional sales can be attributed to Resident Evil 4 Remake (490,000 units), Resident Evil 2 Remake (530,000 units), and Resident Evil 3 Remake (430,000 units).

But Capcom is much more than Resident Evil

Some of Capcom’s other best-selling franchises include the Monster Hunter series, which has already sold 95 million units worldwide.

And it’s not the only one: the Street Fighter franchise, with 52 million, the Mega Man series, with 41 million units worldwide, and the Devil May Cry franchise, with 30 million units worldwide.

Undoubtedly, Capcom is in great shape, and its recent games are proving that there is a place in the industry for an old rocker like them. How happy we are.

System requirements for Resident Evil 4 remake

News surrounding the Resident Evil 4 remake was at the forefront of our coverage on Capcom’s recent Resident Evil showcase. The showcase gave us clues about what we could expect from the remake and how it’ll stay true to the original experience. It also gave us hints at how the remake would inject new life into the classic zombie slasher. Now, however, we turn our focus to the more technical aspects of the game as we delve into the Resident Evil 4 remakes PC system requirements.

Below is a list of the minimum requirements for the Resident Evil 4 remake. Should your PC meet these requirements, you’re home-free and can enjoy the game when it launches. If not, you may experience significant performance issues if the game even starts at all. Minimum requirements are in place for a reason. 

  • First, you’ll require a 64-bit operating system running on a 64-bit processor. 32-bit won’t do in this case. 
  • Next, you’ll need Windows 10 (64-bit) at least. The specs make no mention of Windows 11, but given that it is a gaming-focused next-gen OS, it should be perfect. Ensure that your OS is up to date. 
  • In terms of CPU; the minimum requirement calls for the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or an Intel Core i5 7500.
  • You’ll need at least 8 GB of RAM to run the Resident Evil 4 remake. 
  • In terms of GPU requirements, the lowest that will run the game is an AMD Radeon RX 560 that has 4 GB VRAM or an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB VRAM. 
  • You’ll also need Direct X version 12 installed on your PC. 
  • The game requires a broadband internet connection.

Now, we’ll move on to the recommended requirements. These are the best-case scenario for this game. If you have this setup, you shouldn’t experience any issues. 

  • The OS requirements remain the same here. 
  • In terms of CPU, you’ll want something equivalent to an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or an Intel Core i7 8700. 
  • The optimal GPU setup to have is an AMD Radeon RX 5700 or an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070.
  • The optimal memory availability is anything above 16 GB RAM. 
  • You’ll still need version 12 of Direct X. 
  • Broadband internet connection is non-negotiable. 


If you intend to reap the benefits of ray tracing and even more intense graphics, your setup will need to be higher-spec. In particular, you’ll need at least an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics processing unit. However, an RTX 3050 would be even better.

The biggest news from the Resident Evil showcase

Capcom held another Resident Evil digital showcase yesterday. We saw a similar event back in June this year, and prior to that, there was another similar event in April last year. Just as it had in the previous Resident Evil events, Capcom gave us loads of info on where the franchise is headed, as well as early gameplay footage from the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake. The showcase was around 30 minutes in length, and you can watch the entire event here. But just in case you don’t want to, here’s a summary of what we saw last night.

Capcom started the show off with a brand-new trailer for the studio’s upcoming Resident Evil Village DLC, featuring Ethan’s daughter, Rose. We also heard some of what the devs had to say about why they chose her to lead the storyline and a deeper exploration of her background. 

Capcom then transitioned into Resident Evil Re:Verse, a new multiplayer shooter hitting the metaphorical shelves on October 28th. If you already own Resident Evil Village or its Gold Edition variant; you’ll be able to pick this shooter up for free. We also saw a roadmap of the planned updates for the shooter, as Capcom says it intends to update the game numerous times post-launch. 

The biggest news was probably the Resident Evil 4 remake. Capcom promised us more footage of this fan-favorite experience, and it did not disappoint. I was incredibly pleased and overwhelmed with nostalgia when I saw the reimagined RE4 opening scenes – even more so when I saw the village sequence. Needless to say, I’ll be handing my money over to Capcom for a shot at this experience again.

Capcom has also said that if you buy the PS4 version now, you’ll be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free should you decide to upgrade your console setup. The remake will be available from March 24, 2023, so you’ve got a few months within which to pre-order.

However, you’ll also be able to enjoy many Resident Evil titles on the Nintendo Switch through the online cloud. That means the games won’t take up much storage on the console, and you’ll only load the areas you’re playing in.
