Star Wars: Hunters launch delayed to ‘meet high expectations’

This is going to come as a major disappointment to everyone anxiously awaiting the release of Star Wars: Hunters. Zynga has decided to delay the full release of its new battle royale title to sometime in 2023 to ensure that it ‘meets the high expectations we are setting.’

Unfortunately, as has been the case with numerous games and publishers, delays seem to be becoming a theme in the development of Star Wars: Hunters. The highly-anticipated new title was first announced for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch in February 2021.

While players expected the game to be completed and released later that year, Zynga announced a delay that would push the full release of the game to 2022. 2022 has come around, and now, again, Zynga has decided to push the game’s release ahead another year

Star Wars Hunters launch delayed to ‘meet high expectations’

In the interim, Zynga has rolled out limited soft launches in selected territories, so, at the very least, there are some players who have been able to experience the new Star Wars battle royale arena. In these territories, Zynga will continue to furnish new updates and content for Star Wars: Hunters. The next such update is due in a few weeks.

Zynga recently took to Twitter to announce the second delay. ‘We are working tirelessly to achieve our vision for Star Wars: Hunters. Our ambition is to create a competitive battle arena game that will entertain for years to come. To ensure we meet the high epgetation we are setting for fans globally and ourselves as developers we have made the decision to delay the worldwide launch of Star Wars: Hunters [to 2023].’

The developer added to the tweet, saying that ‘We understand game delays are frustrating, however, our top priority is ensuring players will have the best possible experience in the Arena.’

In other news, Zynga has confirmed new characters for Star Wars: Hunters! Included in these new faces are Skora, a Rodian cartel doctor, and a Mon Calamari who goes by the adorable name Sprocket.

Star Wars: Hunters reveals new additions, characters, and more

Star Wars: Hunters is a new game from Zynga and Lucasfilm games announced in a live Nintendo Direct stream last year. The original release date for this 4v4 arena combat style game coming to Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch was 2021, with a soft release to Android in December 2021. The date changed in September and is more likely to reach us in an official release in 2022. However, the developers have used this to release teasers, like new characters and play modes.

Zynga recently released information about two new playable characters that will join the ranks. The first is Sprocket, who calls himself the #1 fan of Hunters in the Outer Rim. Hunters is the television game show that is also the premise of the arena combat in Star Wars: Hunters. Sprocket is a genius that uses technological knowledge and various droids during combat.

The second character announced is Skora. Skora is a female character who uses her specialized dart gun to heal allies on the battlefield and damage opponents. She is a legendary cartel doctor, and her character description explains that she’s exactly the type of scum you need on your side.

Aside from these two character releases, Zynga also announced a new game mode, Huttball. Developers based this on an existing sport from Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. The developers have adjusted the original 8v8 format to a 4v4 one in Star Wars: Hunters to match the current heart of the game. This play mode works a lot like capture the flag, but instead of a flag, you have a ball. Players will have to traverse different traps and hazards to get the ball back to their base and win.

Star Wars: Hunters revealed two new arenas. The first is an escort map titled The Great Hunt. The second is a Huttball arena called Dusty Ridge. So far, there is no official release date yet, but we look forward to more teasers until the game’s release.
