Is this the end of Uncharted games and possibly The Last Of Us?

Given the success of The Last Of Us, both the games and the HBO series, fans of the franchise might be hoping that developers, Naughty Dog, are planning another game. While this could potentially happen, the studio has been very clear that it’ll only happen if there is a compelling enough storyline. While a plot outline has already been submitted, Naughty Dog has yet to confirm whether they’ll continue with it or not, and what will happen to Uncharted.

The newest game in The Last of Us franchise is an upcoming multiplayer title. Naughty Dog has admitted that this is their most ambitious title ever. Neil Druckmann, Co-President at Naughty Dog, even told Buzzfeed that they consider the multiplayer game to be another chapter in The Last of Us universe.

Uncharted and The Last of Us Ending Soon

He continued to explain that the studio is in the privileged position where they can decide what games and titles they want to make. Just because a particular franchise is successful, that doesn’t mean Naughty Dog has to continue bringing out new games. 

Naughty Dog works with Sony as the publisher. This means that their projects are all funded by Sony. Druckmann noted that they’re very privileged in the support they receive from Sony as the publisher allows them relative freedom in choosing which title to work on. Where other studios may face pressure to continue producing games within a successful genre, that’s not the case for Naughty Dog.

After all, Uncharted was a very successful franchise with Uncharted 4 quickly becoming Naughty Dog’s top selling game. Despite the great success of the franchise, Naughty Dog was able to finish off the series and call it a day. That’s right, Naughty Dog won’t be releasing any more Uncharted games.

Just like they did with Uncharted, Naughty Dog could walk away from The Last of Us, despite its current success. Naughty Dog does have other projects that they’re working on which includes rumored new IP. However, Naughty Dog would make another The Last of Us under one condition.

That condition being that they come up with a compelling story. Since the developers can decide whether or not they want to work on another game in the franchise, having a good storyline is important. They want to ensure the storyline has the same universal message and statement about love that the first two games did. If they can come up with a good story, then they’ll tell it. If not, the second game had a good ending and the franchise can stop there if necessary.

Uncharted and The Last of Us Ending Soon

It should also be noted that just because Naughty Dog isn’t going to make another game in the Uncharted franchise other external developers can continue with the franchise. The same will go for The Last of Us. Naughty Dog has announced that they’re open to the idea of an outside studio continuing with these franchises.

If you’re a fan of The Last of Us, you can continue to enjoy the television series on HBO, streaming Sundays. The first season is set to wrap up on 12 March. As for gaming, we’re still waiting for details on the new The Last of Us multiplayer game.

Netflix password sharing – The end is coming, but when?

Netflix is cracking down on freeloaders and changing password sharing to limit only users in a single household to be able to share the same password. This isn’t a new announcement as the streaming giant made these plans public in 2022. However, things are finally in place, and we have a date when these limits will come into play.

Last year, Netflix announced its plans to restrict password sharing to a single household. This was always the intention behind the multiple account option. However, there weren’t any measures in place to enforce this. This led to users sharing their Netflix passwords with friends and family that don’t even live in the same area. Hilarious stories of broken-up relationships where one partner still secretly uses their exes’ Netflix have been plenty. 

Netflix is putting a stop to this and limiting users from accessing Netflix accounts that don’t belong to their households. This change will start rolling out at the end of March 2023. It’s expected that this change will affect millions of users. Netflix knows this, as the COO, Gregory K. Peters, mentioned on a call with investors that this will be a largely unpopular move. Any situation where you expect users to pay more, or just pay in this case, is usually met with resistance.

However, that doesn’t mean that Netflix is doing anything wrong, or trying to squeeze every cent out of users. They simply want users who aren’t paying and aren’t part of a paying household, to pay for the service. This is not unrealistic, as users still expect the streaming service to provide top-quality viewing content – which costs a lot in licensing fees.

Netflix has also tested out ways to make this change as simple and affordable as possible. The first feature was tested in countries like Peru, Costa Rica, and Chile last year. During these test runs, users outside of the account holder’s household could create a sub-account for only $2-$3, instead of the full price. This model will be introduced to other countries at the end of March, however, we still need confirmation of what the cost will be for a sub-account in the US.

Netflix to Restrict Password Sharing from End of March

Alongside this, Netflix is also rolling out a feature that will make it easy for users to create their own accounts while still keeping their preferences, viewing history, etc. To do this, viewers only need to select the ‘Transfer Profile’ option listed in the dropdown menu when they hover over their profile image. 

Netflix is also still in the testing phases of an advertising-funded plan. This plan will be the cheapest tier, almost $4 cheaper than Netflix’s entry-level plan, but it will contain the occasional ad – much like regular television.
By taking these steps, and providing many different options for users to continue enjoying the service, Netflix will be coming down on password sharing.

While we know that many users will be upset by this, it’s an essential move to keep the platform releasing quality content. We also don’t expect that Netflix will be the only streaming platform taking such steps. Everyone is trying to save money wherever possible, so it makes sense that other streaming platforms might look at doing the same.

Microsoft announces plans to stop selling Windows 10 soon

Microsoft announced that they will stop selling Windows 10 Home and Pro licenses at the end of January. This will also include any license keys for Windows 10. Microsoft will still continue to provide support and security updates for Windows 10 until October 14th, 2025.

Windows 10 was released in 2015, so considering support for the platform will only end in 2025, that’s almost 10 years of using the OS. The only other version of the operating system that lasted longer was Windows XP, which ran supported for almost 14 years. Throughout the history of these various OS, we’ve learned that stopping sales is Microsoft’s way of preparing users for the end of its lifespan. 

Once sales are halted on January 31st, more focus will go into Windows 11 and making the improvements needed on the new OS. However, security patches and bug fixes will still come to Windows 10 until it reaches the end of its support date in 2025. At the moment, it’s not clear whether sales of Windows 10 will also be halted with other retailers and OEMs, or if it’s just from the Microsoft site directly.

Microsoft to Stop Selling Windows 10 on January 31st

This announcement effectively means that Windows users have two options, buy Windows 10 within the next few days before sales stop, or upgrade to Windows 11. There are a few challenges with each of these options for users to consider.

While Windows 10 is a decent operating system where most of the bugs have already been sorted, if you were to buy it now, you’ll have less than three years that you can use the OS before having to upgrade. There also won’t be any new features added during this time, as only security updates and bug fixes will be released.

Upgrading to Windows 11 seems like the logical choice as it means you’ll be able to use the OS for a longer period of time. However, upgrading to Windows 11 is turning out to be quite a challenge. The system requirements for Windows 11 are quite demanding, meaning that many users’ current systems can’t support the new OS unless they own a top-of-the-range device. Windows 11 does include some exciting features which might motivate users to upgrade.

Windows 10 received a generally good response from users when it was first released. However, some of the criticisms that the OS received were related to the number of advertising facilities on the OS. Some outlets even consider these advertisements as a ‘hidden cost’ of upgrading to the system for free.

However, once users got over the advertisements, the OS worked very well.
Microsoft is pushing users to upgrade to Windows 11 by stopping sales of Windows 10 and ending support for Windows 7. Some users will continue working on the older version, especially considering the upgrade requirements.

One Outlook to Rule them All: Microsoft continues its way to scrap stock mail app in Windows 11

We’ve known for a while that Microsoft has been working on ‘One Outlook’ or ‘Project Monarch’ with the goal of replacing the native email client on Windows 11 and 10. They plan to bring a new Outlook experience to users’ desktops. This process slowly started to take form with the release of the ‘Outlook for Windows’ app that became available to select people to test out. Now, it seems the next step is looming.

It would appear that Microsoft is getting closer to replacing the stock Mail app in Windows 10 and 11 as a ‘Preview’ button becomes available for the UWP Mail app. By clicking on the toggle, users will be redirected to download the new Outlook for Windows app. This illustrates that Microsoft is getting closer to completely replacing the stock Email app.

However, the UWP Mail app is still only in Preview mode, meaning it’s not perfect yet. There are still a few things that have to be sorted out before it can truly replace the native email app. For one, it appears that the new Outlook for Windows app is only a progressive web app. This means that even if you download and use the app, the native Mail app will still be on your device for now.

Another thing to note is that the new Outlook for Windows PWA looks much different than the UWP equivalent. The new app has an interface very similar to Outlook.com. It should be noted that despite a similar look, the Outlook for Windows app doesn’t have all the features that the Outlook desktop client has – which could be frustrating for some users. Some of these key features include support for third-party email accounts, offline support, web add-ins, and more.

If you’re someone that only uses the bare functionality when sending emails, or if you only rarely send emails, you might not notice that these features are missing. However, businesses, freelancers, or anyone active on their email accounts might find the lack of these features annoying. 

Microsoft has confirmed that they’ll be adding additional features, such as support for Gmail, soon, we hope that includes the above features as well as other beneficial ones to make the app stand out. 

If you want to give the new app a try, you can download it directly from the Microsoft store. It would seem that Microsoft is making a few changes amid the current changes happening in the company. We look forward to seeing how these changes affect the production of services like Outlook.

Riot Games hacked: Valorant and other games updates delayed

Riot Games, th company that brought us, League of Legends, Valorant, and many others, has been hacked. While the developers at Riot Games are still in the process of investigating the effects of the hack, they’ve let players know that there may be delays with patches and updates across many of their games.

Riot Games announced the hack on Friday evening via Twitter. Along with the announcement, the team also assured players that they’ll keep them up to date concerning the investigation. The security breach occurred in their production and development environment, hence one of the reasons for delays in rolling out new updates.

The team also announced that no player information was lost or accessed during the attack. The hack affected production, however, which is affecting the creation of new upgrades and improvements. While the team is still investigating what games have been affected, it’s clear that League of Legends and Valorant will see delays. This hack affects updates introducing new elements, as well as patches to fix bugs and vulnerabilities.

Another game that also has confirmed delays is Teamfight Tactics. Players were expecting an update with balance changes for battle. However, Riot Games announced that the release of this patch will also be delayed due to the recent hack. The developers are working on a hotfix to address the most meaningful modification until they’re able to release the full patch. 

Riot Games also admitted to players that they don’t have all the answers yet, but that they want to keep everyone affected in the loop with what is happening following the breach. This is a nice change of pace compared to other businesses that want to hide a breach or hack for as long as possible.

 

Riot Games isn’t the first large company to face a breach of security this year, Paypal is another company that’s already suffered a hack. While many players tend to get panicked, there are steps that you can take to ensure your online security and protect you against these threats. 

The first thing you should do is to ensure that all of your accounts have strong and unique passwords. If you’re scared that you’ll forget all the different passwords, then make use of a secure password manager. Along with this, you can add another layer of security and online anonymity by using a VPN or proxy. While this doesn’t protect the information you give to platforms, it does make you difficult to track and therefore difficult to become part of a bigger attack.

Not sure if your accounts are safe? That’s not a problem. With more platforms requiring login and personal information, it’s easy to forget all the accounts you have and monitor breaches on those accounts. In this situation, you can use haveIbeenpwned to check whether your credentials were involved in a breach.

Breaches and hacks are becoming increasingly frequent, and no one is truly safe from these attacks. As such, it’s essential for businesses and individuals alike to do everything they can to protect their data. Using strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and being aware of what you share online is a good place to start.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – When can you watch it on Disney+?

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first movie, Black Panther, became a cultural phenomenon shortly after its release featuring the first black superhero. It made $1.3 billion and earned an Oscar. The release of the sequel was met with eager excitement, which now continues as we finally have a Disney+ release date for the movie.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever came to theaters on November 11th, 2022. Since its release, we had to wait patiently to hear when it’ll come to Disney+. The reason for the wait in receiving a confirmed release date is because the producers want to see how the movie does at the box office first. The better it does at the box office, the longer we wait for it to be released on Disney+. Purely based on that, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has to be doing well.

This newest movie in the Marvel franchise follows Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye, and Dora Milaje as they fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers. At the same time, they’re also dealing with the death of King T’Challa portrayed by Chadwick Boseman. Throughout the story, we watch as the characters grieve the sudden loss, and continue to try and find a new way forward for their country.

During the movie, we’re also introduced to new characters, one of which will play an important role in the story. This character, Namor, is the King of a hidden underwater nation that’s being introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

So, if you’re wondering when you’ll be able to watch the movie on Disney+, you’re in luck. The wait isn’t long anymore as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released on the streaming service on Wednesday, February 1st. This long wait for a release date is great for the franchise and demonstrates the movie’s popularity. Here’s how Wakanda Forever compares to other MCU releases from the last year: 

  • Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness – 47 days from its theatrical release to Disney+
  • Thor: Love & Thunder – 64 days from its theatrical release to arrive on Disney+
  • Eternals – 68 days from its theatrical release to Disney+
  • Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings – 70 days to be released on Disney+
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – 83 days from theatrical release to Disney+

It’s also been confirmed that the movie will not be coming to Disney+ Premier and that this service hasn’t been used since the release of Jungle Cruise. Furthermore, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever can only be streamed on Disney+ and won’t be released on other platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and others.

While we love most of the Marvel Studios superhero movies, there’s no denying that Black Panther set an unprecedented standard. It will be interesting to see how the second installment does without the lead from the first movie. However, we do appreciate that they didn’t just use a new actor and pretend that nothing happened. This was probably one of the more respectable farewells that we’ve seen a franchise make to honor a lost actor.

TikTok gets banned by more US universities

Many public universities across the US have already started banning the popular social media app TikTok. Recently, two of the country’s largest colleges followed suit in banning the platform from campus networks and devices.

The two latest universities to join in on the US fight against the Beijing-owned TikTok are the University of Texas and Texas A&M University. This sudden uptake in universities banning the social media platform comes from the executive orders issued by several state governors. The University of Texas’s Technology Strategy Advisor sent an email to all students informing them of this ban. Included in the letter, they also stated that the university is taking these steps to comply with Governor Gregg Abott’s directive against the platform.

Governor Abott isn’t the only one that places greater emphasis on banning TikTok from government and now public educational centers. He merely joins other states like Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Oklahoma, and South Dakota that have already implemented this ban in public universities.

However, along with banning the app from public universities, Governor Abbot also banned TikTok from any government devices in early December. The main reason given for these bans is concerns related to data security and privacy stemming from the app’s Chinese ownership.

Governor Abbot listed these concerns as a growing threat and gave Government agencies until February to plan and implement the necessary changes. However, none of the other potentially harmful concerns were mentioned.

The staff at Texas University cited that they’re taking the necessary steps to ensure any information and data contained on the University network is safe. Banning TikTok from university networks and university-owned devices should eliminate the risk of this information getting out to other countries.

TikTok Bans at US Universities Continues

According to the governor’s directive, TikTok harvests an excessive amount of information from users device’s. This includes data related to when, where, and how they use the internet. This information, which could contain troves of personal or sensitive information, is then delivered to the Chinese government.

At the moment, TikTok still finds itself in a strange predicament amongst the US population. While the popularity of the app continues to remain strong, it’s also under intense scrutiny at the federal and state levels. Even though the Biden administration banned TikTok from Government devices and networks, the concerns were initially raised by the Trump administration.

Ironically, the US government is taking such a stand against TikTok, while many other apps headquartered in the US also use similar tactics in harvesting data, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. However, since these are US headquartered companies, they have more recourse when pushing back against these policies.

Regardless of what the general public thinks of the ongoing TikTok controversy, the bans on the app in universities will continue. Many students simply stated that if they can’t use the app on campus networks, they’ll simply switch to their data plans to access TikTok. This brings with it other concerns such as bans creating inequality among peers while also limiting free expression. We look forward to seeing what the response will be to the new concerns.

The Legend of Vox Machina – Things to remember before Season Two

With season 2 of Legend of Vox Machina on its way, you may want a recap of the first season!

If you enjoyed the first season of The Legend of Vox Machina, get ready as the second season is kicking off today. However, as excited as we are to start watching the first episode of the new season, a little recap of what happened is in order. In preparation for the new season, let’s take a look at what’s already happened. If you haven’t watched season one yet, there may be some spoilers.

Vox Machina is an adult fantasy animation that follows the journey of a misfit group of adventurers. The storyline is based on the Dungeons and Dragons adventures of the web series Critical Role. Their adventures aren’t smooth sailing, gold and tavern drinks, instead, they end up in bad situations after the next.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season One Recap

During the first season, the ragtag group is somehow hired by the Empire of Tal’Dorei to take on a mission to identify and destroy a new and invisible threat. This is the main focus of the plot in season one. During their mission, the team discovers the culprit is a blue Dragon named Brimscythe. To add to the plot twist, Brimscythe had been posing as a member of the Council – which led to many of the Empire’s armies being wiped out.

Vox Machina succeeds in defeating Brimscythe, but that’s not the end of the story. It appears that Brimscythe was just a single threat in a much bigger operation. In the season finale, four dragons descend on the capital city, bringing chaos and death. In season 2, we’ll see what Vox Machina does against this much bigger problem.

While that covers the main storyline, many other intricacies make this series so compelling. While the first season shows a lot of gory deaths, sexual innuendos, and dark drama, there are also glimmers of romance. 

Already in season one, we could see a relationship forming between Vax’ildan and Keyleth, and the effect this has on the elven twin’s relationship. There also seems to be something blossoming between Percy and Vex’Ahlia as she shows the most compassion for his growing vengeance. There’s also some flirty banter between Pyke and Scanland, which could develop into something more, but we’ll have to wait and see.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season One Recap

During season two, we might also see how Scanland’s character develops. In season one, we picked up on some feelings of inadequacies despite his happy-go-lucky persona. We might also discover more about the elven twin’s past as the tidbits we learned in season one shared that their mother was killed by a dragon, and season 2 is all about fighting dragons. 

We’re also expecting to see some more of Keyleth’s development in season two as the adventure takes them on a search for ancient magical relics – the perfect setup for her test. Finally, we have yet to see what happens with Grog and Sylas’s magical black blade that whispers to him. Will that be causing issues for the adventurer in season 2?

Aside from our band of adventurers, there are also other storylines continuing into season 2. We know Dr. Anna Ripley escaped, but she still has unfinished business with Percy, hinting that we might see her return in the future. The Council of Tal’Dorei is still shrouded in mystery. Aside from Lady Allura and the halfling knight Kima, we haven’t learned much about the other members. Hopefully, in season two we’ll learn more about the Council.

Luckily, season 2 is releasing today on Amazon Prime, so you can dive into the adventure straight away! We look forward to seeing what more this Dungeons and Dragons inspired series has in store.

Dune: Part Two

Dune: Part Two is the next movie in the franchise based on the books by Frank Herbert. The first movie was released back in 2021, and despite being released during a difficult period it was still a big box office hit. The National Board of Review and American Film Institute named it one of the top 10 movie releases of 2021.

The second installment returns with a powerful cast that includes the return of Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, and Dave Bautista. We’ll also be seeing a few new additions that include Florence Pugh and Austin Butler. If you’re as excited as we are for Dune: Part Two you’re in for a bit of a wait as it’s scheduled to hit theaters on November, 3rd 2023.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes might seem like a mouthful, but this highly anticipated dystopian action adventure is based on the books by Suzanne Collins. This movie serves as a prequel to The Hunger Games trilogy released in 2012. This movie is set 64 years before the original and follows a teenage version of Coriolanus Snow, the future President of Panem and the main villain of the original movies. We follow him as he trains a tribute for the 10th Hunger Games. This stage prepares him for his future authoritarian rule.

When it comes to casting, we’re expected to see Tom Blythe as a young President Snow. Other cast members are said to include Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Jason Schwartzman, Burn Gorman, Peter Dinklage, and Viola Davis. Fans of the original Hunger Games or anyone that enjoys dystopian settings can enjoy this prequel in theaters on November 17, 2023.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the eighth live-action movie based on the Transformers toy line. This installment is heavily influenced by the Beast Wars storyline and is a sequel to Bumblebee which was released in 2018. This movie continues to follow Optimus Prime’s story in 1994 in Brooklyn when he first made a bond with the planet.

Transformers: Rise of Beasts is directed by Steven Caple Jr. with Peter Cullen lending his voice once more to the character of Optimus Prime. The rest of the cast consists of Michelle Yeoh, Pete Davidson, Ron Perlman, and Anthony Ramos. If you’re a fan of the Transformers franchise, you can catch this newest sci-fi installment being released in the US on June 9th, 2023.

Spaceman

Spaceman is a highly anticipated sci-fi drama directed by Johan Renck and is based on the novel ‘Spaceman of Bohemia’ by Jaroslav Kalfař. The story follows a young man, Jakub Procházka, who was abandoned as a boy and raised by his grandparents in the Czech countryside. Despite the odds, he beats all expectations and becomes the country’s first astronaut.

This movie has an A-list cast lined up. We’ll see Adam Sandler portraying Jakub Procházka, and he is joined by Carey Mulligan, Paul Dano, Kunal Nayyar, Isabella Rossellini, and Sinéad Phelps. Although there’s no official release date yet, Spaceman is expected to release on Netflix in the fall of 2023.

65 is a sci-fi movie produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The movie was first announced back in 2020 but is finally scheduled for release. The story follows an astronaut that crash lands on a mysterious planet (actually earth 65 million years ago). Now he has to traverse the treacherous terrain and prehistoric animals while also learning that he’s not alone.

Adam Driver will be taking the lead and we’re very excited to see him portraying the character Mills. He’s joined by Ariana Greenblat, Chloe Coleman, and Alexandra Shipp. Despite the many delays since 65 was announced, the movie will be released on March 17th, 2023.

The Mothership

The Mothership is a sci-fi thriller adventure directed by Matthew Charman. It follows the story of a mother, Sara Morse, whose husband disappeared a year ago. However, she and her children set out to discover more about his disappearance and soon find a mysterious object beneath their remote home. 

Halle Berry takes on the lead role of Sara Morse. The amazing actress is joined by Molly Parker, Omari Hardwick, Sydney Lemmon, Paul Guilfoyle, and John Ortiz. At the moment there’s still no official release date, but the movie is expected to be released on Netflix sometime in 2023.

The Pod Generation

The Pod Generation is an exciting sci-fi romance directed by Sophie Barthes. The movie is set in the near future where AI is all the craze and anything natural is fading into obscurity. In the movie, we follow a New York couple, Rachel and Alvy, as they prepare to start a family using new technology.

The Pod Generation sees Amelia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the main roles of Rachel and Alvy. They are joined by Kathryn Hunter, Vinette Robinson, Rosalie Craig, Jean-Marc Barr, Rita Bernard-Shaw, and Megan Maczko. The Pod Generation will be released on January 19th, 2023.
