The director of Thunderbolts denies working on the most anticipated movie of the MCU

Jake Schreier, considered the top choice to direct the reboot of Marvel’s X-Men saga, has denied having official confirmation about his involvement in the project. During the Mediterranean Film Festival in Malta, Schreier indicated that while he has clear thoughts on how to approach any potential direction, the focus always starts from the characters and collaboration with great writers. “That’s as much as I can say,” he added. The director of Thunderbolts denies working on the most anticipated movie of the MCU

Jake Schreier, considered the top choice to direct the reboot of Marvel’s X-Men saga, has denied having any official confirmation regarding his involvement in the project. During the Mediterranean Film Festival in Malta, Schreier indicated that while he has clear thoughts on how to approach any potential direction, the focus always starts from the characters and collaboration with great writers. “That’s as much as I can say,” he added.

Many rumors, no confirmation

Schreier has gained notoriety in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to his work on Thunderbolts, a film that, although it did not achieve great box office success, was praised for its focus on characters and its filmmaking style. Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, commented that Thunderbolts is a key example of how Marvel is reevaluating its approach, prioritizing quality over quantity in its productions. “Over time, we have learned that quantity does not necessarily guarantee quality,” Iger stated, emphasizing that they have lost focus by overproducing.

However, the situation is complicated by a recent statement from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, who, in an interview, mentioned that “Jake [Schreier] is directing that,” referring to the X-Men reboot. This statement contradicts Schreier’s denial and suggests that there may be an undisclosed official confirmation from Marvel, which has been corroborated by reports from Gizmodo.

Meanwhile, the next significant release from Marvel will be The Fantastic Four: First Steps, scheduled for July 25. This film is expected to be a turning point for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it prepares for the culmination of the Multiverse saga with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Video game adaptations are experiencing a renaissance, with works like The Last of Us and Super Mario Bros. Movie leading this movement by elevating and expanding the original material. In this context, Sony and Nintendo have joined forces to bring one of the industry’s most beloved franchises to the screen: The Legend of Zelda. The film, directed by Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner, was originally scheduled to premiere on March 27, 2027, but has been postponed to May 7, 2027, due to “production reasons”.

A premiere with no major rivals in sight

This delay could be beneficial, as it will allow the movie to be released without the direct competition of major releases like Avengers: Secret Wars, which initially occupied the same date. The choice of May for its release could also take advantage of the start of the summer box office season, a time generally favorable for movie releases.

Despite the enthusiasm, no actors have been announced for the main roles so far. Among the speculations, Hunter Schafer, known for her role in Euphoria, had expressed her interest in playing Zelda, but recently a rumor has emerged that she might be considered for a role in a Marvel production, which could exclude her participation in this project.

With the growing success of video game adaptations, the future of The Legend of Zelda could mark a significant shift in the perception of these initiatives in the film industry, becoming a positive trend that invites hope for both fans and creators. As more details about the movie are revealed, anticipation will continue to grow, and it remains to be seen how Nintendo and Sony plan to bring this iconic world to life on the big screen.

The Russo brothers make a nod to the MCU in their latest movie

In their recent film The Electric State, the Russo brothers have included an intriguing nod that has sparked speculation among fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During a scene, a robot can be seen reading an issue of the comic Avengers West Coast, specifically issue 56, where the phrase “the witch is back” stands out, which could hint at the return of the Scarlet Witch in future Marvel projects.

A nod to their next two movies

The directors, known for their work on Avengers: Endgame, are currently working on two highly anticipated films: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These projects have heightened speculation about possible connections with Scarlet Witch, a character portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen. Since her apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have been eager for her return, especially since she does not appear in the recent series Agatha All Along.

The comic that the robot is reading features Scarlet Witch switching sides and having conflicts with other heroes, which could reflect a similar change in the MCU narrative. This situation becomes even more complicated when considering that in the mentioned story, the villain Doctor Doom plays a crucial role, suggesting that there could be more cross-references between the comic stories and the movies that the Russos are about to develop.

The Russo brothers are experts at leaving subtle hints for fans, and the details in The Electric State don’t seem to be an exception. While there are no official confirmations about the return of Scarlet Witch, there may be reasons to think that the nod was intentional and could pave the way for an exciting reappearance of this popular character. “The witch has returned” may not just be a simple Easter egg, but a statement of intent for the future of the MCU.
