Lionsgate, Keanu Reeves, and Chad Stahelski have agreed to develop a fifth film in the successful John Wick saga. The confirmation came during CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where the producers assured that both the actor and the director, along with the rest of the creative team, have found an original and satisfying idea to continue the story of the iconic assassin. Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate, emphasized that the return of Reeves, Stahelski, and the creative team is an indication that they are committed to delivering something truly phenomenal about these characters and the universe they have built for over a decade.
A whole array of new John Wick projects
In addition to the fifth installment, Lionsgate revealed that they are working on an anime set before the events of the first film. This new project will explore the story of Baba Yaga and his “Impossible Task,” the mission that led him to free himself from the High Table to retire with his beloved Helen. According to the producers, this anime will provide a fresh and exciting perspective on the world of John Wick.
On the other hand, it was also confirmed that a spin-off centered on Caine, the blind assassin played by Donnie Yen, who will return to this role after his appearance in John Wick: Chapter 4. Yen is expected not only to act in the project but also to take on the direction, promising a rich experience in both action and narrative.
Finally, fans of the saga can prepare for the premiere of Ballerina, a movie featuring John Wick in a supporting role, which is set to hit theaters on June 6 of this year. With multiple projects in development, it seems that the John Wick universe is more alive than ever, promising entertainment for movie lovers for years to come.
