Netflix has set a new milestone in the entertainment industry by launching Electric State, its most expensive movie to date, with a budget of 320 million dollars. This figure far exceeds the 200 million invested in previous blockbusters from the platform, such as Red Notice and The Gray Man. The company is undoubtedly looking to reaffirm its commitment to creating large-scale content that competes with traditional cinema.
A cathedral disaster
Electric State is set in a retro-futuristic version of the 90s, in a post-war world where humans and robots coexist in a virtual reality controlled by a technology called Neurocaster. The plot follows Michelle (played by Millie Bobby Brown), a teenager searching for her missing brother, with the help of a conscious robot named Cosmo. During her journey, she encounters the smuggler Keats, played by Chris Pratt, in a desolate landscape populated by robotic animatronics.
The cast also includes notable actors such as Stanley Tucci, Giancarlo Esposito, Woody Norman, Jason Alexander, and Ke Huy Quan, among others. Electric State is now available for streaming on Netflix, and promises to be a visual experience that explores themes of technology and humanity in an intriguing context.
