GOG has re-released, for the delight of classic video game enthusiasts, the iconic titles Dino Crisis 1 and 2, adapted to work on modern systems. These updated versions are accessible on GOG and offer support for 4K resolutions, allowing players to relive the thrill of facing dinosaurs in optimal conditions, whether on Windows 10 or 11 and with contemporary controllers. Similar to what they already did with the original Resident Evil trilogy.
GOG is a store committed to the preservation of video games
This relaunch is part of GOG’s commitment to its video game preservation program, which ensures that the titles in its catalog will remain operational on current platforms indefinitely. The digital store has been recognized for its resistance to trends like always-on DRM and for rescuing classics that would otherwise be forgotten.
In addition to these new versions, GOG has implemented a significant overhaul of its wishlist feature, now called Dreamlist. Besides allowing users to vote for games they want to see re-released, the new platform also invites them to share stories and memories related to those titles. This approach aims to foster conversation between players and intellectual property owners, which could facilitate the re-release of other classics in the future.
GOG hopes that the more attractive and functional design of the Dreamlist will increase the number of votes and, therefore, influence negotiations with publishers. With this strategy, those responsible for GOG trust that a significant number of votes could capture the attention of those who own the rights to the games, thus generating opportunities for remakes that would otherwise not be considered.
