The popular driving and shooting game in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Speed Freeks, has surprised its community with a significant change in its business model. Starting May 22, the title will no longer be free and will adopt a paid approach, costing 16 euros. However, this transition comes with the removal of microtransactions, marking a new phase for the game, as confirmed by the developers at Caged Element.
No microtransactions, only premium DLCs
During its time in early access, Speed Freeks allowed players to experience the game at no cost, but starting from the official release date on Steam, a more conventional content strategy will be established through premium DLC, aiming to avoid the aggressive monetization that has characterized many titles in the current market. This decision has been well received by the community, which values a more honest and straightforward approach.
Players who have already participated in the early access phases or in the free trials will receive free access to the full version, although those who have not played before the mentioned date will have to purchase the game. However, it has been confirmed that the internal store will be removed for new users, although those who have already accumulated Teef, the game’s virtual currency, will be able to use it for a year after the launch.
Despite the decision to move to a paid model, some players have expressed their regret for not taking the opportunity to access the full version for free before the early access period ended. However, others in the community have commented reflectively that “he who doesn’t run, flies,” highlighting the competitive nature of the video game environment.
