The iconic chords of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are ready to resonate once again, more than twenty years after the end of the original series. Hulu is in the process of developing a reboot that introduces a new generation of heroes and villains in Sunnydale, although the story itself does not yet have an official synopsis. It has been reported that the pilot will feature a new vampire slayer, while Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, will return as a mentor to this young heroine.
A reboot with a new approach
Gellar, the star of the original series, will reprise her role as an adult Buffy, an approach that promises to explore her evolution over the years. Alongside her, Ryan Kiera Armstrong will become “the chosen one,” a role that has generated expectations after being praised by Gellar on social media, who expressed that from the first casting she knew Armstrong would be the ideal choice.
The cast also includes Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel di Tomasso, and Jack Cutmore-Scott, although details about their characters remain shrouded in mystery. The first script reading has already taken place, suggesting that production could begin soon, as long as Hulu approves the pilot in the development phase.
Sisters Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman, responsible for writing and executive production, are in charge of bringing this new era of the saga to life, while the direction of the pilot will be handled by ChloƩ Zhao, known for her work on Nomadland. With credentials of experience, there is considerable hope in the potential of this renewed series.
If Hulu greenlights the production, the first season could premiere between 2026 and 2027, as long as development continues at a good pace. Until then, fans of Buffy, the vampire slayer will have to wait for more news about this exciting return.
