Netflix has decided to cancel the series FUBAR after two seasons, despite the fact that the first was a considerable success. The decision comes just over six weeks after the premiere of the second season on June 12, 2023, which, unfortunately, failed to capture the same audience interest. In its first weekend, FUBAR garnered only 2.2 million views, representing an 80% drop compared to the 11 million of the first season at its launch.
Not even the Schwarzenegger seal could lift it
The second season, although it did not manage to replicate the success of the first in terms of viewership, was better received by critics, achieving a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes compared to the 68% of the first installment. This change in perception could be attributed to the inclusion of more sophisticated plots, such as espionage battles and international elements, as well as the inclusion of recognized actors like Carrie-Anne Moss and the return of Monica Barbaro, who was recently nominated for an Oscar.
Despite the improvement in critical reception, the decline in viewership was evident in the weeks following the premiere. FUBAR barely made it into the Top 10 on Netflix and quickly faded away, achieving only seventh place on the list of English-language series before completely disappearing from the ranking.
The cancellation of FUBAR adds to the list of other series that Netflix has decided not to renew, such as The Rookie and The Residence. In this context, the decision is curious, especially considering Arnold Schwarzenegger’s worldwide fame as the main draw of the series. However, the audience numbers have not justified its continuation in Netflix’s catalog.
