Guilty Gear Strive announces its anime

Video game animes are having a new life. With both mediums flourishing in interest, both video game companies and animation studios are interested in exploiting these synergies. That’s why we are seeing more video game animes than ever before. Or more than ever since the 90s. So it doesn’t surprise us when the anime of one of the great fighting franchises is announced.

Arc System Works and Sanzigen have announced that Guilty Gear Strive will have an anime. Titled Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, it will be based on the long-standing fighting game franchise by Daisuke Ishiwatari, and although we don’t have relevant information about its story yet, we do know that the poster features Sol Badguy and Sin Kiske, Ky Kiske’s son, along with a new character. This leads us to suspect that it is a story that will continue where the game left off.

About the team, we already have some details. Sanzigen is a studio specializing in 3D animation, but Guilty Gear Strive is in 3D with simulated drawing, so it shouldn’t be a problem. The script will be written by Norimitsu Kaihou, who has previously worked on animes such as Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School and Solo Leveling. More surprising is the choice of director, Shigeru Morikawa, a veteran director whose most relevant work has been Argonavis Movie: Axia.

Although we only have the official website right now, it invites us to stay tuned. Specifically, to stay tuned for the next Anime Expo in Los Angeles. Held from July 4th to 7th, it will surely be there when we can see its first trailer and when they give us the release date.

All this does not take away from the fact that the movement to make an anime of Guilty Gear Strive is, to say the least, peculiar. The game’s story mode is already, in essence, an anime. That is why it is assumed to be a sequel of some kind, as it could be redundant in any other case. And for that very reason, we are even more curious to know what they will do with this adaptation. And also because of how crazy, yet absolutely fascinating, the story of this franchise is.
