In the final season of Cobra Kai, the creators of the successful Netflix show made a significant effort to include Julie Pierce, played by Hilary Swank in The Next Karate Kid. However, despite their attempts to contact the actress, the inclusion of her character did not materialize. Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, the producers of the series, expressed their desire to have Swank through her representatives, planning a narrative arc that could have spanned one or two episodes.

Perhaps in future projects

Heald shared that they had a conceptual idea of how Julie could be integrated into the story without the need to commit to a full season. A meeting was mentioned similar to the one they had with Elisabeth Shue, who returned to the franchise as Ali in the third season. Despite their efforts, communication with Swank did not materialize, as she was in a very busy stage of her life and prioritizing her personal and professional situation.

The creators described Swank’s reaction as disrespectful, explaining that she was not available to discuss the possibility of her participation. Swank, who has recently focused on her family and other projects, did not want the producers to travel to present their proposal, as it was not a suitable time for her.

Despite this disappointment, the Cobra Kai team remains hopeful of having Julie in future Miyagi-verse projects, mentioning that her absence did not affect the main development of the final season. Heald noted that the story remains intact and that there is still room to explore more characters from the vast Karate Kid universe. In this sense, Julie Pierce’s storyline is still being considered for the future.
