It was a matter of time: we already have the first iPhone 15 with a swollen battery

The overheating problems of the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are already something of public knowledge, which we did not have until now…

The iPhone 15 Pro is the most anticipated phone of the year. With every new iPhone, Apple tries to convince us that their devices are the best in the market. And while they are right (or close to being right), the new phones have an issue with heat.

iOS 17 DOWNLOAD

The overheating issues of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are already public knowledge, with some users complaining that both flagship devices are getting so hot that holding them is nearly impossible.

However, none of these users had encountered swollen battery problems… until today. Reddit has posted an image of the device showing a bulge that slightly separates the lower part from the screen. Yes, it’s a serious issue.

A swollen battery for an iPhone 15 in just a week

A Redditor with the username u/Leather_Cheerio_402 has said that their iPhone 15 Pro was picked up on a Monday and everything seemed fine, but when they went to put on the case, they noticed that something “didn’t fit.”

The owner of the iPhone 15 Pro also mentioned that the nearest Apple Store was not helpful in the matter. When they explained that the model with the swollen battery was purchased from Verizon, the individual was advised to visit that store.

The iPhone community responded that this treatment from the Apple Store was completely unacceptable. Regardless of the device being picked up from a Verizon outlet, the Genius Bar should assist the owner.

Given that this is the first case of an iPhone 15 Pro appearing with a swollen battery, Apple can be given the benefit of the doubt.

According to an analyst, the A17 Pro powering both “Pro” models is not the culprit, but rather the titanium chassis and inadequate cooling solution, which have led to severe thermal throttling issues and noticeable stuttering problems with games.

Let’s hope this is an isolated incident and no one else has to go through this ordeal. Otherwise, this problem could be endemic to the company’s most powerful model.

The iPhone 15 Pro has a design problem that only has one solution: to limit its strong point

The latest development that is attracting the attention of the media is the design flaw that the iPhone 15 Pro seems to suffer from, which would be overheating…

Since they were introduced, the new iPhone 15 models have been in the spotlight. Any information about them grabs headlines… and today is no different.

iOS 17 DOWNLOAD

Unfortunately for Apple, the latest issue grabbing media attention is the design flaw apparently affecting the iPhone 15 Pro, which is causing phones to overheat due to thermal throttling.

And while you may not believe me, it’s worth paying attention to Ming-Chi Kuo from TFI Securities, an analyst and technology expert specializing in Apple (few people know more about the brand than he does).

A problem stemming from titanium and the obsession with lightweight design

We are all used to our phones heating up a bit from time to time, sometimes for obvious reasons like playing a demanding video game, sometimes for no apparent reason.

But for the iPhone 15 series, things can be more serious. According to 9to5Mac, “there are widespread reports of the iPhone 15 overheating, seemingly in all models.”

Some of the heating issues occur when the phone is charging, which may not be a problem since it is unlikely, though not impossible, that you would use it much while it’s charging.

It’s also worth noting that the first 24 hours of an iPhone’s life are not indicative of how it will perform in the future. This is because most people transfer data from their old phone on the first day, and the new device works hard to copy everything.

A Korean YouTuber, BullsLab, claims to have recorded the temperature of an iPhone with a thermal imaging camera and, when testing the phone thoroughly, playing games and running performance tests, he says the phone reached nearly 47º degrees.

Now, Ming-Chi Kuo’s comments add more context. Kuo says that overheating is unlikely to be due to one of the entirely new elements of the iPhone 15 Pro, the A17 Pro chip, which was built using a 3-nanometer process, the first smartphone chips to do so.

This makes sense, as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have seen reports of overheating, and that processor is not in those phones.

Kuo says in a report on Medium: “My survey indicates that the overheating issues of the iPhone 15 Pro series are not related to TSMC’s advanced 3nm node.”

So what could it be? Kuo continues: “It is more likely that the main cause is the compromises made in the thermal system design to achieve a lighter weight, such as reducing the heat dissipation area and using a titanium frame, which negatively affects thermal efficiency.”

And how can this be resolved? At a hardware level, it’s too late for the millions of phones sold so far, so the logical step would be for Apple to reduce the power of its processor, thus preventing the phone from heating up so much. Yes, it’s not an ideal solution, but it seems to be the only viable one.

We now have a date and price to play Resident Evil on an iPhone 15 Pro

We already have a date for when we can hit Lady Dimitrescu on our iPhone 15 Pro. Luckily for you, it’s much sooner than expected.

When Apple announced that the iPhone 15 Pro could natively run Triple-A games, many of us were excited. Furthermore, the list provided was short but very powerful: Resident Evil 4 Remake, Death Stranding, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Resident Evil Village.

iOS 17 DOWNLOAD

All these games are major releases, very recent (Assassin’s Creed: Mirage hasn’t even been released yet), and they signify one thing: Apple is serious about diving headfirst into the gaming sector.

For those who may not know, Resident Evil Village is a fantastic horror game that became really famous in 2021, thanks in part to Lady Dimitrescu, a very tall and elegant vampire. In this ninth installment, players take on the role of Ethan Winters.

Resident Evil Village will arrive on October 30th, just in time for Halloween

The base game will cost 40 euros, with the Winters’ Expansion DLC available for an additional 20 euros. This pricing is surprising considering the official price for the game on consoles and PC is 59.99 euros, although it could be a launch promotion.

Resident Evil Village originally arrived on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2021, and it received positive reviews, although it didn’t necessarily please everyone following the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 7.

The game features werewolves, a mutant fish, a leader of a killer cult, and decaying zombie-like enemies, but its standout character was Countess Alcina Dimitrescu. She is an exceptionally tall, undead villain with sharp claws who leads a trio of vampiric daughters and became a fan-favorite character.

RE: Village landed on Mac in 2022. Apple revealed the versions for iPhone and iPad during its annual iPhone event on September 12, 2023, but didn’t share a release date at that time.

Capcom has provided the date on its website this week. The Resident Evil 4 remake, which arrived on PC and consoles this year, will also come to Apple mobile devices in 2023, although the exact date has not been confirmed.

Other games coming to the iPhone 15 Pro, thanks to the new A17 Pro chipset, include Death Stranding and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Death Stranding will be released this year, while Mirage is scheduled for early 2024.

They told us it was the future, but the reality is that Apple’s FineWoven accessories are terrifying

When FineWoven is scratched, the damage is forever. In their tests, the scratches are still there a week later, which means…

Friends, what you’ve heard so far is true. The new FineWoven cases and accessories from Apple for the iPhone are bad. Really bad. That’s what we’re hearing from the media that have been able to test the new iPhone 15 and its cases.

iOS 17 DOWNLOAD

At The Verge, they explain that they’ve been turning them over for a week, looking at them from different angles, picking them up, putting them down, caressing them… Seven days later, they still can’t make sense of them. And they say it clearly, “FineWoven is very bad.”

FineWoven is a new fabric option that you’ll find on iPhone 15 cases, AirTag holders, and MagSafe wallets. Apple calls it “luxurious and durable microtwill.” There isn’t a YouTuber who isn’t disappointed with these cases.

Low quality and not cheap at all, that’s FineWoven

It’s silky, almost slippery to the touch, and costs $59 for any of the phone cases, $35 for an AirTag holder, and $99 for one of the new watch bands. They’re not the most expensive phone cases you can buy, but they are quite pricey for what the market offers.

Apple presents them as a kind of premium substitute for the leather accessories it stopped making. The company will no longer sell leather cases and straps for the iPhone because making them at Apple’s scale “has a significant carbon footprint,” according to Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environmental policy.

So, if you want a high-quality case for your iPhone, your new, more sustainable option would be FineWoven, or that’s what Apple has sold us.

But FineWoven is by no means the high-quality material that leather is. When The Verge’s journalist took the MagSafe wallet out of its box, she could clearly see some places where it already showed wear along the edges. And then there’s the fingernail test.

Allison explains that if you put one of these cases on your phone, you’re inevitably going to accidentally scratch it with your fingernails or it’s going to come into contact with your car keys.

And when FineWoven gets scratched, the damage is permanent. In their tests, the scratches were still there a week later, no matter how many times they tried to “polish” them by rubbing their finger over them.

“Leather cases had their issues, but when leather ages, at least it looks nice; not so with a dirty, dusty fabric case,” they explain.

Perhaps FineWoven would be acceptable if they cost half as much… or a third. Or maybe if Apple had never called it a “durable case.” The frustration is monumental.

The most impressive thing about the iPhone 15 Pro has turned out to be a rehash of the iPhone 14, according to leaks

Although all iPhone 15 models have a larger battery than their direct predecessors, their autonomy is the same, which…

Sometimes we think that major technological announcements are leaps into the void made out of nowhere. But that’s not the case; to reach these milestones, many steps have been taken before. This applies to everything, including the new iPhone 15.

iOS 17 DOWNLOAD

While the A17 Pro may be the industry’s first 3nm chipset, several leaks and performance metrics reveal that it only offers a modest performance increase compared to the A16 Bionic.

For instance, in multi-core tests, the new chip has only achieved a single-digit increase over last year’s SoC, and the GPU has only seen a 20% improvement. It’s enough to handle video games, but not a significant leap in performance.

Are the A16 and A17 the same SoC?

Now, the reason for these slight differences is that a new leak suggests that the A17 Pro and the A16 Bionic might not be so different from each other after all: the new chip would be an upgraded version with higher clock speeds and other optimizations.

The leak is related to the code names given to the performance and efficiency cores of the chipsets, and we take a closer look at those tests.

The leak reported by Wccftech shows code names that originate from an undisclosed Weibo account, but Revegnus has posted an image below from their X account, illustrating the similarities between the A17 Pro and the A16 Bionic.

Each performance and efficiency core of a chipset is designated by a code name. For the A15 Bionic, it was H14C, and for the A16 Bionic, H15. However, what’s most interesting is that for the A17 Pro, the code name used is “H15 Coll.”

If Apple’s first 3nm chip were entirely different, it should have been assigned a completely new code name, like H16, but that’s not the case.

In the post, Revegnus suggests that the A17 Pro could be an improved iteration of the A16 Bionic, featuring an additional GPU core, enhanced clock speeds for the performance cores, and more optimizations.

We’ve also noticed that, according to a Chinese regulatory document, despite all models of the iPhone 15 having larger batteries than their direct predecessors, their battery life is the same as that of the iPhone 14 series, which shouldn’t be the case when you have an efficient 3nm SoC.

In case you’ve missed this detail as well, Apple didn’t showcase any graphs with the A17 Pro outperforming the competition in any category, which implies that there might be something they’re keeping under wraps.

It’s possible that this silicon is just another “interim” product, and the real improvements may come with the A18 Pro or the A18 Bionic, whatever name Apple decides to give to next year’s flagship iPhone chip.

Apple wants to know if you are sad or happy: we explain what is behind all this

Apple may be recognizing that subjective experience is essential to understanding human emotions and the company’s goal would be…

Apple is on everyone’s lips. Following the presentation of their new iPhone 15 and Watch Series 9, Tim Cook’s company has many novelties in store for us that will arrive throughout the end of the year. And the most striking developments come with iOS 17.

iOS 17 DOWNLOAD

It is expected that Apple’s iOS 17 operating system will be released today. The software update comes with several new features, including a tool for daily mood and emotion tracking.

This is a technique known to emotion researchers as “experience sampling.” It’s not new, as we’ve already seen it with Fitbit watches.

How does emotion tracking work?

With the latest software update, Apple’s Health app will allow iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch users to record how they feel on a scale ranging from “very unpleasant” to “very pleasant.”

Afterwards, users will be able to choose from a list of adjectives to label their feelings and indicate which factors (such as health, fitness, relationships, work, money, and current events) have had the most influence on how they feel.

The goal is to provide users with daily and weekly summaries of their feelings, along with data on the factors that may have influenced them. Apple claims that this will help users “build emotional awareness and resilience.”

Why does Apple care about our feelings?

Before this update, Apple’s devices already collected large amounts of health-related data. The iPhone is equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope, light sensor, microphone, camera, and GPS, while the Apple Watch can also record skin temperature and heart rate.

Why does Apple now want users to also record how they feel? For money, as the emotion detection and recognition sector is projected to reach a value of $56 billion by 2024.

And Apple is one of the numerous tech companies that have invested in trying to detect people’s emotions from sensor recordings.

However, scientists are not clear whether emotions can be inferred from these bodily signals. Reviews of research suggest that neither facial expressions nor physiological responses can reliably be used to deduce what emotions someone is experiencing.

By adding self-reporting to their methodological tools, Apple may be acknowledging that subjective experience is essential for understanding human emotions and, seemingly, abandoning the goal of deducing emotions solely from “objective” data.

Of course, the ultimate goal is to improve their health sector to make a better business in the future. There’s no doubt about that.

iPhone 15: Prepare for a Major Overhaul Beyond the Anticipated USB C Port

It seems more and more likely that Apple will put the Dynamic Island in the entire iPhone 15 range only and when Apple considers that…

It is becoming increasingly likely that Apple will introduce Dynamic Island to the entire iPhone 15 lineup when the phones are launched, and a new leak from China confirms this.

AppleTV+ DOWNLOAD

The images shared by Ice Universe (who has a decent track record with iPhone leaks) on Twitter showcase what appear to be tempered glass protectors for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

An add-on that will be available for all models

Several rumors have already suggested that all models of the iPhone 15 will feature Dynamic Island this year, and it wouldn’t be surprising given that new features introduced in Apple’s Pro iPhones tend to trickle down to non-Pro models a generation or two later.

Some Pro features have remained exclusive to the Pro lineup for a longer period (such as LiDAR and a telephoto sensor), which were introduced in the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max and have yet to appear in non-Pro iPhones.

As such, we are fairly confident that Dynamic Island will indeed appear across all iPhone models this year. Goodbye notch, and hello Dynamic Island.

A big boost for Dynamic Island

Honestly, Dynamic Island is a clever way to remove the notch – the Notch – from the TrueDepth module, introduced with the iPhone X, while retaining most of the technology that has made Face ID, selfies, and front-facing AR operations so effective.

Although some features, like timers and apps such as Uber and Deliveroo, make good use of Dynamic Island, developers, in general, have been slow to leverage its potential. It has been more of an additional feature rather than a differentiating technology.

If Apple brings Dynamic Island to the entire iPhone 15 lineup, it will be more likely for developers to incorporate meaningful and truly useful functions. Furthermore, there are reports suggesting that Apple is introducing improvements to Dynamic Island, indicating its long-term commitment to the technology.

Great compatibility, but with some iPhones left out

It is important to remember that Apple is known for its long-term software support, which means that older iPhone models may still be able to receive the iOS 17 update. Now, with the WWDC 2023 keynote behind us and the details of the new operating system already revealed, we know which iPhones will be able to install the update. Here they are:

  • iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)

So, if your iPhone model is on the list, you can rest assured that your device will be able to receive and run iOS 17.

That being said, it is vital to mention that even if our iPhone is on the list, not all features of iOS 17 may be available for the device. Due to the power requirements for certain functionalities, some features may require newer iPhones. However, this is something we won’t know for sure until the official release of the system in the fall, as changes can occur during the development process.

Lastly, if our iPhone model is not on the list, it does not mean that it will stop functioning. Even if we don’t upgrade to iOS 17, Apple will continue to provide security updates for previous versions of the operating system for several years. This ensures that the iPhone remains secure and functional, even if it doesn’t have the latest features.
