PlayStation might have a State of Play very soon—these are the games we are expecting

PlayStation is having a rather disappointing 2024. Except for unexpected triumphs like Helldivers 2, everything has been disappointments and very few games for its console. Hence, a meme has even emerged saying that PlayStation 5 has no games. Although this is not true, it feels as if it were. This is why the possibility of a PlayStation Showcase, which now resonates more strongly than ever, is so important. According to Jeff Grubb, a journalist from Giant Bomb, Sony should hold a State of Play in about 12 days, as he mentioned on September 12th.

PlayStation is having a rather disappointing 2024. Except for unexpected triumphs like Helldivers 2, everything has been disappointing, and there are very few games for its console. Hence, a meme has even emerged saying that PlayStation 5 has no video games. While this isn’t true, it feels like it is. That’s why the possibility of a PlayStation Showcase, which now resonates more strongly than ever, is so important.

According to Jeff Grubb, a journalist from Giant Bomb, who spoke on September 12, Sony should hold a State of Play in about 12 days. He has now confirmed that, indeed, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, Sony will hold a State of Play, still to be announced.

Among the most obvious things that will be announced is the remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn. Already leaked by the ESRB, we know it exists and that its name is Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. Regarding this, Jeff Grubb has said that we should expect not only this remaster to be announced but also another remaster that is even less exciting. This is not exactly the mood we would like to enter this event. Especially considering Sony’s poor 2024. And the even poorer 2025 that it seems to be heading towards.

Starting from the premise that State of Play, and particularly the September State of Play, is Sony’s big event of the year, it is expected that there will be major announcements. What can we expect? In addition to what has already been mentioned, it is likely that we will see the first gameplay trailer of Marathon, a new trailer for Directive 8020, and a trailer for Splitgate 2. Given the dates, it would make sense to see a trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and, if we’re lucky, the first gameplay trailer for Insomniac’s Wolverine game.

Within plausible speculation, we should not rule out a first teaser of what Naughty Dogs is working on. And perhaps, one of the other two Marvel games being developed by third parties, such as Blade by Arkhane Studios or Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra by Skydance Interactive, might make an appearance here. Additionally, it is almost certain that Square Enix will have some surprises in store, and who knows if Hideo Kojima will do the same.

Of course, the most anticipated and surely the most interesting will be what we do not yet know. But it is useless to speculate about that because we do not know it. We do not know it exists. That is why we must stay tuned to social media in the coming days to see if the announcement is made. And when that happens, stay alert to see the future plans for a Sony with an evident identity crisis.
