The director of RGG Studio, Masayoshi Yokoyama, has confirmed that Yakuza Kiwami 3 will mark the end of the Kiwami series, a line of remakes that has updated the origins of Kazuma Kiryu for a new generation of players.
This decision responds to narrative changes introduced in the remake that affect the continuity of future games, specifically Yakuza 4, 5, and 6, complicating the possibility of maintaining a linear chronology. During a live stream on Ryusta TV, Yokoyama emphasized that the series will not stop, but will take a new direction with a different approach.
It doesn’t seem likely that they will stop making remakes
According to the director, Yakuza Kiwami 3 will not be integrated into a direct sequel of the series known as Like a Dragon 9, but rather a new series is being considered that could explore different narratives.
This suggests the possibility of a more radical reimagining of the Yakuza universe, instead of carrying out remakes that strictly adhere to the continuity established by previous games.
The changes in the script suggest that Kiwami 3 could create an alternative timeline, making players who enjoyed the previous titles face a different landscape. This new direction could open the doors to stories less constrained by previous narratives, and at the same time, RGG Studio could consider a return to these games with a more innovative approach than a simple one-to-one remake.
For fans of the series, especially in Spain, the expectation remains the implementation of an official translation patch for Yakuza 4, 5, and 6, allowing more players to join this saga that has constantly evolved in recent years. With the arrival of Yakuza Kiwami 3, the community is looking forward to a future that promises to be both uncertain and exciting.
