Prime Video has confirmed the release date of the highly anticipated season 16 of ‘La que se avecina’, which will be launched on November 18, 2025. This announcement comes with the trailer for the new installment of the successful comedy, which promises to continue captivating viewers with the stories of the lovable neighbors of Contubernio 49.
Here it comes, here it comes!
A highlighted aspect of this new season is that it will mark a milestone in the history of the series, reaching episode number 200. To celebrate this significant achievement, episode 200 will be screened in more than 40 cinemas across Spain during special showings scheduled for November 11 and 15, offering fans a unique opportunity to enjoy the episode on the big screen.
Another notable change for this season is the duration of the episodes, which will be shorter compared to usual, ranging between 30 and 50 minutes. Although some fans may feel disappointed by this adjustment, the creators of the series have decided that the previous format had become outdated. This decision aims to maintain freshness and agility in the narrative.
In addition, a well-known cast returns to the stage, including actors Jordi Sánchez, Nathalie Seseña, Pablo Chiapella, and many more, who will reprise their iconic characters, ensuring that fans feel at home with the series. The season will premiere with a unique episode, followed by a new chapter every Tuesday, until a total of eight episodes is completed. If you are a fan of this series, you are surely counting down the days.
Season 16 of La que se avecina will mark a significant change in the duration of its episodes, which will now range between 35 and 50 minutes. This contrasts with previous seasons, which reached up to an hour and a half, pointing to a transformation in the dynamics of television content consumption, thus adapting to current viewer preferences. Notably shorter episodes Laura Caballero, the series producer, has confirmed this decision, which represents a break with the conventions of free-to-air television. Season 16 of La que se avecina will mark a significant change in the duration of its episodes, which will now range between 35 and 50 minutes. This contrast with previous seasons, which lasted up to an hour and a half, points to a transformation in the dynamics of television content consumption, thus adapting to the current preferences of viewers.
Notably Shorter Episodes
Laura Caballero, producer of the series, has confirmed this decision, which represents a break with the conventions of open television. Over the years, Aquí no hay quien viva, the precursor to La que se avecina, had yielded to the pressure from networks to extend the duration of its episodes, reaching up to an hour and a half in season 3. However, the audience has repeatedly expressed their desire for shorter episodes, finding the wait until the end of longer episodes uncomfortable, especially with commercial breaks that often extend the total duration of the chapter.
This change not only responds to the demands of creators but also reflects a current market logic: viewers are seeking a more agile and efficient consumption, in a context where time is increasingly valuable. Caballero mentioned that, in the past, reactions on social media during commercial breaks were an indicator that many viewers could no longer keep up with longer episodes, even preferring two shorter episodes instead of one long one.
Although it has been confirmed that there will be eight new episodes of La que se avecina, the specific release date on Prime Video is still unknown. The show’s followers will have to wait a little longer for a new visit to Contubernio 49, where, following the saying, “what is good, if brief, is twice as good”.
Here no one lives is the most popular Spanish series of the last 30 years. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise us that, when its creators couldn’t keep it on the air due to various problems that are too long to explain here, they sought to replicate its success. Here Comes Everyone is the most popular Spanish series of the last 30 years. So it shouldn’t surprise us that, when its creators could not keep it on air due to various long-standing issues that are too lengthy to explain here, they sought to replicate its success. Even bordering on self-plagiarism. This is how an extremely long-running series was born, which no one seems to watch, but which is always on air and of which everyone seems to be always up to date: La que se avecina.
Premiered in 2007, with 194 episodes and 15 seasons aired and renewed for at least two more, La que se avecina is an extremely long-running and popular series. So much so that it shouldn’t surprise us that it has caught the attention of other nearby countries. Like Portugal. They have made their own version of it.
The Portuguese version of an extremely popular series
Premiering on January 18 of this year, 2025, and now in its second season, which premiered on April 5, the series has been a huge success in our neighboring country and has already aired 20 episodes. And as is logical, Vizinhos Para Sempre, or La que se Avecina: Portugal, is now coming to Spain through Amazon Prime Video. But not without first having gone through television. Even if you probably didn’t even realize that this has happened.
The series has been airing on the Factoría de Ficción channel, or FDF, since last Friday, August 8, at 10:55 PM, with three episodes. Later moving to the 10:20 PM slot, with only two episodes, it demonstrated great confidence in the series, as it is considered prime time. And rightly so. The series achieved a 4% audience share at its premiere, which is excellent figures for DTT.
For its part, the audience has received it with mixed feelings. Some have found it too derivative, being too close to the original series in its plots and characters. Others have found it great precisely for that reason: it remains La que se avecina but with a Portuguese touch in its characters and setting, as well as a certain contemporary social critique that is nonexistent in the Spanish series, with the housing issue making a much more forceful appearance in this Portuguese version of the series.
In any case, the series has convinced enough people to now be available on streaming services. Specifically on Amazon Prime Video. So if you are a fan of La que se avecina, you have no excuse not to watch it.
A different version, but perfect for the fans
Because while it is true that it is a different version of the series, it remains La que se avecina. And therein lies its charm and its main selling point: it’s the same, but a little different. Exactly what the die-hard fans of the series expect from it, who will still have to wait two or three more months to see new episodes. Or settle for continuing to watch reruns of the old episodes, of which they undoubtedly have many.
