The acclaimed creator Ryan Murphy is already preparing his next series centered on one of the most infamous crime cases in the United States: Lizzie Borden. Following the overwhelming success of Monster: The Story of Ed Gein, Netflix has confirmed that the fourth installment of its anthology will be dedicated to the historical figure of Borden, who was accused of murdering her father and stepmother in 1892 with an axe, although the murder weapon was never found and she was ultimately acquitted due to lack of evidence.
A not-so-well-known serial killer
Lizzie Borden, born in 1860 in Fall River, Massachusetts, grew up in a wealthy but restrictive home, where family tensions were palpable, especially after the death of her mother and her father’s second marriage to Abby Borden. The circumstances surrounding her trial captured public attention and condemned her socially, despite her acquittal. On August 4, 1892, while Andrew Borden was murdered on the sofa of his home, his wife was attacked in the hours prior, an episode that has endured in popular culture as one of the greatest criminal mysteries of its time.
The new series promises to continue the success of its predecessors, combining psychological drama with unsettling portrayals of “monsters” in North American criminal history. Although there is no confirmed release date, the fourth season is expected to arrive in the fall of 2026, in line with the releases of previous seasons, which are usually scheduled between September and October.
As for the cast, it has been confirmed that Ella Beatty will take on the role of Lizzie Borden, while Rebecca Hall will play her stepmother and Vicky Krieps will take on the role of the maid. In addition, it has been reported that Billie Lourd and Jessica Barden will join the cast, thus consolidating a promising ensemble for this unsettling narrative that will undoubtedly capture the attention of viewers.
