Cillian Murphy has been mentioned as a possible candidate to play Lord Voldemort in the new HBO series based on the Harry Potter universe. However, the acclaimed actor has denied these rumors, clarifying that he has no information about this potential role.
Honored, but knows nothing about it
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Murphy noted that while his children have shown him the speculation surrounding his name, he is not aware of any casting related to the series. “No, my kids occasionally show it to me, but no, I don’t know anything about that,” he commented. At the same time, the actor expressed the pressure that would come with following in the footsteps of Ralph Fiennes, who delivered a memorable performance of the famous villain. “It’s really hard to follow whatever Ralph Fiennes does. The man is a legend of acting,” Murphy explained, suggesting that the challenge would be monumental for any actor taking on the role.
Despite Murphy’s denial, director Chris Columbus, who directed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, has praised the idea of the actor taking on the role of Voldemort, stating that “Cillian is one of my favorite actors, so it would be amazing.” However, so far, no actor has been confirmed for this iconic role in the series, which will not debut until 2027.
The series aims to revive the magical story of Harry Potter, starting with the first installment of the saga. Since Voldemort does not have a significant appearance in the first book, the casting process for the Dark Lord may take some time, leaving fans waiting for more news.
