Yoshiyuki Tomino, the renowned director behind the iconic ‘Gundam’ franchise, is currently working on a new anime project that promises to surprise his fans. In a recent interview with NHK, on the occasion of the commemoration of the end of World War II, Tomino reflected on the impact that the war conflict has had on his life and professional career, especially in his work ‘Gundam’.

Redefining War

Traditionally, ‘Gundam’ has explored the horrors and complexities of war through its stories, but Tomino suggests that his upcoming anime will abandon the typical narrative structure that presents a clear and definable enemy. Instead, he raises the possibility that humanity itself may become the true villain of the plot. This conceptual transformation reflects his perception of the changes in war and society over the past few decades.

Despite his undeniable legacy in the field of war anime, Tomino feels somewhat disenchanted by the way fans consume the stories of ‘Gundam’. According to him, many viewers focus on the visual and spectacular aspects, while ignoring the deep and critical themes that the series addresses. This frustration seems to have led him to a turning point, where he seeks to redefine what it means to create a meaningful narrative in the contemporary context.

Both the impact of the war on his works and his new narrative approach promise to offer fans a different experience that, while it may not align with traditional expectations, aims to provoke a deeper reflection on human nature and history itself. What is clear is that the director has not given up and continues to seek ways to challenge and move his audience.

The ending of Attack on Titan has a date, and it’s earlier than expected

Attack on Titan is one of the most important series in recent years, but it still did not have a date for its end, until now; and it’s very soon.

There is no greater mass phenomenon in modern anime than Attack on Titan. No other anime has managed to break the barrier between the most hardcore fans of the medium and pop culture as Isayama’s work has done. That’s why the end of the anime is eagerly anticipated with a mix of excitement and fear. These final episodes will be a generational event, and on top of it all, we don’t have a release date. Just an approximate timeframe. Until now.

We knew that their goal was to release the final episodes of the series at some point in the fall of 2023. This means that their release window would extend from early October to late December, without a specific date. It wasn’t even certain that they would be able to meet this timeframe with absolute certainty, as other delays or issues could arise during the production of the finale. But now, a specific date has been confirmed. Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3 (Part 2) will premiere on November 4th.

This is great news because the series has experienced a significant delay. Originally scheduled to air earlier in the year, various issues on the part of MAPPA, the studio responsible for the anime, forced them to postpone the release of the highly anticipated anime finale.

While the series will be broadcast on television only in Japan, via the NHK channel, viewers worldwide will be able to watch it through Crunchyroll, just like the rest of the series. This means that there will be no reason for anyone to miss the conclusion of this anime that has left a mark on an era. And, at last, we now know when we can start watching the beginning of its end.
