Released in January of this year, the short Shingeki no Kyojin: Requiem was presented as a reinterpretation of the ending of the popular manga Attack on Titan, created by Hajime Isayama. This project, carried out by a group of animators under the name Studio Eclypse, seeks to offer dissatisfied fans an alternative ending that contrasts with the official conclusion of the story, generating a melting pot of opinions within the community.

Attack on other versions

The short film, which has a duration of 15 minutes and is based on a fancomic, was initially designed as a non-profit project. However, it soon faced opposition from Kodansha, the publisher responsible for Shingeki no Kyojin, which has taken legal action against Studio Eclypse for copyright infringement. This situation has affected the availability of the short on social media, including the removal of videos from platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

Despite the fact that Studio Eclypse has stated that they are not currently facing legal issues personally, the fact that Kodansha has not directly sued them does not eliminate the growing scrutiny over their project. It is worth remembering that in the past, the studio has already had similar legal problems with an unauthorized Berserk project, which adds tension to their current situation.

The rise of Shingeki no Kyojin: Requiem highlights the division of opinions among Attack on Titan fans regarding Isayama’s original ending. Although it is currently unknown whether Studio Eclypse will continue with its project, the pressure from Japanese publishers suggests that the future of the short may not be promising. Fans remain expectant, wondering if the studio will be able to move forward amid these legal challenges.

The VR game you need, Attack on Titan, is delayed, but you didn’t know it exists

The VR game you need, but you didn’t know it exists, is delayed: Attack on Titan, for which you will have to wait until next year

Attack on Titan has already ended. Both its anime and manga have concluded, leaving millions of fans bereft of one of the longest-running and beloved stories in recent years. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise us that some of these fans have decided to create their own video game, as we recently mentioned. Nor should it be assumed that the Attack on Titan universe is far from being closed and concluded. Not when there are still experiences to explore, such as killing a Titan in virtual reality.

That’s what was promised with Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable. Developed for Meta Quest, it’s a virtual reality game described as an “action hunting game” playable in both single-player and cooperative modes for up to two people. It’s exactly what you’re thinking: stepping into the shoes of a member of the Walls’ Army and facing off against a Titan using Three-Dimensional Maneuver Gear. While it might sound extremely dizzying, from what we’ve seen in its trailer, it seems to be quite manageable.

The problem is you won’t be able to try it soon, even if it makes you as eager as a Titan. Despite Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable being initially announced for release in winter 2023, it has been delayed until the second half of 2024. According to the CEO of the developing studio, Univrs, this delay is to ensure the overall quality of the game.

This isn’t the first delay for this game. Originally announced in December 2022, it was supposed to launch during the summer of 2023. However, in June, Univrs postponed the game until the winter of the same year.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable will be released on Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest Pro 2, and Meta Quest Pro 3 in the second half of 2024, if all goes well.

Attack on Titan returns with a new chapter more than two years later: what can we expect?

Attack on Titan ended a long time ago, but Ishiyama has decided to return to his masterpiece to make a new volume that will be released in 2024

The end of Attack on Titan feels distant now, at least when it comes to the manga. While it’s true that the anime is still heading towards its conclusion, the manga wrapped up its story two and a half years ago. All of this was not without tremendous controversy. With heightened nationalism, problematic references to the Third Reich, and certain decisions about how its characters were portrayed, the ending was not well-received. However, after the anime concludes, the manga will have a new ending.

Attack on Titan will have a new volume published in 2024. This volume 35 will be released on April 30, 2024, in Japan, five months after the anime finale airs on November 4. Although we don’t know its content yet, we do have some details.

This manga will be titled Bad Boys and will be included inside the first official art book of the manga, called The Fly. While the manga will consist of only 18 pages, Isayama himself has stated that he is very excited about the culmination of his manga and the possibility of returning to it. He is currently working on the script for this manga, which was not planned until now.

Unsurprisingly, this has led to a certain division among fans. While some are simply happy to have a new chapter of the manga, others have requested, with varying degrees of intensity, that it represents a significant change from Attack on Titan’s previous ending. Although nothing has been specified about the content of this manga, not even whether it will alter the ending of Attack on Titan in any way, franchise fans should be pleased to have a surprise final chapter to read. Even if it’s nearly three years after the original manga concluded.

The ending of Attack on Titan has a date, and it’s earlier than expected

Attack on Titan is one of the most important series in recent years, but it still did not have a date for its end, until now; and it’s very soon.

There is no greater mass phenomenon in modern anime than Attack on Titan. No other anime has managed to break the barrier between the most hardcore fans of the medium and pop culture as Isayama’s work has done. That’s why the end of the anime is eagerly anticipated with a mix of excitement and fear. These final episodes will be a generational event, and on top of it all, we don’t have a release date. Just an approximate timeframe. Until now.

We knew that their goal was to release the final episodes of the series at some point in the fall of 2023. This means that their release window would extend from early October to late December, without a specific date. It wasn’t even certain that they would be able to meet this timeframe with absolute certainty, as other delays or issues could arise during the production of the finale. But now, a specific date has been confirmed. Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3 (Part 2) will premiere on November 4th.

This is great news because the series has experienced a significant delay. Originally scheduled to air earlier in the year, various issues on the part of MAPPA, the studio responsible for the anime, forced them to postpone the release of the highly anticipated anime finale.

While the series will be broadcast on television only in Japan, via the NHK channel, viewers worldwide will be able to watch it through Crunchyroll, just like the rest of the series. This means that there will be no reason for anyone to miss the conclusion of this anime that has left a mark on an era. And, at last, we now know when we can start watching the beginning of its end.

Discover the new anime from the creators of Attack on Titan that is very reminiscent of Berserk

From the creators of Attack on Titan comes a new anime that promises to be the new anime queen of 2023: Hell Paradise.

If there is one thing that 2023 is not lacking, it is anime, even less so when we have the long-awaited end of Attack on the Titans on the horizon. Until that happens, although it is true that we have the second season of authentic hits such as Spy x Family, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kimetsu no Yaiba or Pokémon, now without Ash or Pikachu, we still lack a new series that stands out. One that gets us out of our chairs with excitement after each episode. But Mappa, the studio behind Attack on the Titans, always provides, and that is why they have brought us Hell’s Paradise, or as it is known in Japan, Jigokuraku.

Adapting Yuji Kaku’s eponymous manga spanning thirteen volumes published between January 2018 and January 2021, Hell’s Paradise is an action series with psychological thriller overtones in the context of a dark fantasy world that may powerfully remind us of cult classics like Berserk.

In Hell’s Paradise we follow Gabimaru, a ninja who is captured during an assassination mission. Sentenced to be executed, his captors discover to their horror that no matter what they try, Gabimaru’s body cannot die. Seeing this as a possibility, he is offered a chance to be redeemed from his crimes: he can go to the newly discovered island of Shinsenkyo, where it is said that there is an elixir capable of making anyone who consumes it immortal. If he goes there, gets it and comes back alive, he will be pardoned for his crimes. Thus begins the story of Hell’s Paradise and the relationship between Gabimaru and Sagiri, the executioner who is assigned to make sure he does not try to escape or leave aside his mission, as they explore the island, where they will find the island’s own threats, plus all the other death row inmates who have been promised the same treatment and will not hesitate to try to kill them so as not to have to share the elixir with them.

Having premiered last April 1 on Crunchyroll, the first eight episodes of the first season of the series have already been broadcasted. With a very good animation, an excellent drawing and not sparing any detail, whether erotic or gore, it respects the original work to the maximum, loaded with a brutality, much more subtle than it might seem.

If you like works like Attack on the Titans or Chainsawman, or enjoyed manga like the sadly incomplete Berserk, Hell’s Paradise is the anime you’ve been waiting for. One of the most interesting works of the year, made by a veteran studio with a great resume like Mappa, promising to be crowned as one of the great series of the year.
