Nintendo has officially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2, a console that promises significant hardware improvements and a series of new titles. The company has confirmed that the Switch 2 will feature a 1080p LCD screen and a performance of 120fps, as well as support for 4K in docked mode. With the launch scheduled for June 5th, fans are eager to learn more about the capabilities of this new console.
A more powerful console, but not without its problems
At a recent event, Nintendo announced that it will offer seven hours of hands-on gameplay during its Treehouse streams, where highlighted titles such as Mario Kart World and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be showcased. This presentation will help fans visualize how the games will look and function on the new system.
Despite the expectations, not everyone is convinced of the potential of the Switch 2. Mike Ybarra, former head of Blizzard, expressed his skepticism on Twitter, describing the Switch 2 as a hard pass. Ybarra argues that, although the new hardware may offer an improvement, the higher prices of games –between 80 and 90 euros– and the continuation of low frame rates lead him to choose to stay on his PC platform, avoiding iconic titles like Mario and Zelda for now.
Ybarra also questions the veracity of the marketing claims about the graphical performance of the Switch 2, suggesting that it may not be as superior as indicated in the promotional campaigns. “Never believe in the frames presented in the marketing material,” he warns, noting that comparisons do not always reflect the real experience until third parties test them.
As the release date approaches, the gaming community eagerly awaits Nintendo’s streams to gain a better perspective on the performance and capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2.
