The narrative follows Danny Archer, played by DiCaprio, a gunrunner who finds himself trapped in the cycle of violence and corruption linked to the diamond industry. Accompanied by Djimon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly, the film is not only notable for its fast pace and exciting action scenes but also for its strong political message. Although the movie received five Oscar nominations, including one for Hounsou as Best Supporting Actor, it did not win any awards that night, where The Departed by Martin Scorsese was the big winner.
