The showrunner of Halo believes that video game fans hate all adaptations by default

In Hollywood, it is trendy to adapt video games, but it seems that few people know how to do it well. Many people adapt books; they have found a goldmine in video games, but it seems that the success rate is still much higher among the former. Or at least that is the impression given. And now, Steven Kane, creator of the Halo series, has two reasons for this: video game fans hate adaptations, and also, adapting a video game is much more difficult. In Hollywood, it is trendy to adapt video games, but it seems that few people know how to do it well. Many people adapt books; they have found a goldmine in video games, but it seems that the success rate is still much higher among the former. Or at least, that is the impression given. And now, Steven Kane, creator of the Halo series, has two reasons for this: video game fans hate adaptations, and moreover, adapting a video game is much more difficult.

A man aware of the challenges of his job

In an interview for Deadline, the creator of the Halo series admitted that adapting video games has an extra difficulty compared to other media. “Fans are going to hate anything you do at first. You have to accept that it’s part of the process,” he stated. Adding that, “also, the company that owns the game doesn’t want to destroy the franchise, so there’s a lot of pressure”.

Regarding what it has meant to work with Halo, he pointed out that “everyone has their own idea of what Halo is, so now you carry what the IP means and you don’t want to mess it up.” Thus demonstrating a total awareness of the difficulty of his work. And also why players often have a very defensive attitude towards these kinds of adaptations: each person has a very particular concept of what the IP is and they don’t necessarily have faith that it will be adapted well.

But as we have seen in recent years with series like The Last of Us, Fallout, or, to a lesser extent, Halo, it seems that the audiovisual medium is knowing how to adapt video games with much more fidelity than before. Assuming with more respect, affection, and delicacy towards the medium, everything indicates that video game adaptations are now treated with more respect and care than before. And also, that fans will learn to accept them more easily.

Quentin Tarantino destroys Hollywood cinema: "A factory of tasteless sausages"

Aside from making the tenth film, Quentin Tarantino is willing to do anything to capture our attention. If it’s not indiscriminately messing with actors like Paul Dano, it’s announcing that he’s going to do something but then not following through, and of course, criticizing a film industry that he used to understand perfectly and now eludes him. Quentin Tarantino destroys Hollywood cinema: "A factory of tasteless sausages"

Less than making the tenth film, Quentin Tarantino is willing to do anything to capture our attention. If it’s not picking on actors like Paul Dano in a completely indiscriminate way, it’s announcing that he will do something but in the end doesn’t, and of course, getting involved with a film industry that he used to understand perfectly and now eludes him.

At 63 years old, Tarantino is no longer that young destroyer, but an old man shouting at the clouds. Now he just needs to accept it himself.

The Salchipelis Factory

In a column for Sight & Sound, the director has criticized some movies that no longer represent him: “The flaws, the inconsistencies, the pandering to the audience, the poorly chosen actors, or simply, the nonsensical nonsense often sinks any new movie that comes out of that factory of bland sausages that used to be called Hollywood”. You know, not like before, when all movies without exception were masterpieces.

Going to the movies with Tarantino must be a blast, for sure: “Nowadays, the very concept of what a movie is inspires me more contempt than generosity. Which is understandable, because, in comparison, the films of the last six years make the 80s look like the 30s.” Just in case you don’t review the movies of the last six years, lest the whole thing falls apart.

Of course, there have been movies that he liked, thank goodness. Not many, though: he cites West Side Story and the two parts of Horizon: An American Saga, adding that “nothing that really captivated me and transported me to that magical world of fun that I used to visit frequently and was the reason I loved movies above any other form of art. Nowadays, I prefer to read a book”. Very well, Quentin, but don’t try to make us believe it’s because cinema is worse: it’s because you are older and your tastes have changed. It’s normal.

If there is one movie, among all, that he liked: The Heist, on Netflix, the new one from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, “an exciting police thriller with a novel premise that manages to deliver everything in really smart ways. Everything worked: Carnahan’s direction, the splendid cast, the cinematography of the film, the sensational script by Carnahan and Michael McGrade“. In short, the things of Quentin.

Backrooms is the movie of the season. With a budget of 10 million, it has made 135 million at the box office so far, and with extraordinary critical reception and notable audience reception, the film is set to be one of the movies of the year.

In addition to turning its very young director, Kane Parsons, who is only 20 years old, into one of the great revelations of cinema. He is also already making headlines for his completely contrarian opinions on AI in cinema.

Generative AI no, thanks

In a recent interview with The Australian, the director stated that regarding AI, he considers himself to be “in the same place as most people with their heads on their shoulders”: he does not want Hollywood, or any other industry, to start using AI. Stating that “if I could snap my fingers and make generative AI disappear forever, I probably would,” Parsons seems to have very clear ideas about it.

In fact, it hasn’t stopped there. Stating that “generative AI feels less like innovation and more like a symptom of a greater cultural and economic corruption,” he has made his opinion on AI very clear. But he also wants to explore it in his work. He has said that “I am interested in using that iconography in art — not using AI to create the art itself, but examining what it represents,” hinting at where his upcoming projects may lead after the overwhelming success of his debut.

This contrasts with the recent statements by Martin Scorsese, stating that we must be open to AI, because cinema is a young medium and we should not close ourselves off to its possible evolutions. Demonstrating that there is a clear difference in how this technology is perceived generationally. And not necessarily in the age relationship that we would normally expect.

Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood is one of the most celebrated films of Quentin Tarantino’s recent career. It’s no wonder. Its reflection of Hollywood, the 60s, the Manson family, and Los Angeles in general is interesting, bold, and no less controversial. That’s why cinephiles and viewers in general are eagerly awaiting its sequel, The Adventures of Cliff Booth. It has finally received a release date.

The Adventures of Cliff Booth will hit IMAX theaters worldwide on November 25 for just two weeks. This is Netflix’s standard theatrical release contract for films they believe have a chance in the awards circuit and need at least that time in theaters to be considered for the Oscars. This is why we will be able to enjoy this movie in theaters for two weeks and on streaming on Netflix starting December 23.

That doesn’t mean we will see another Tarantino movie. On the contrary. The Adventures of Cliff Booth will be directed by another of the great directors of our time: David Fincher. With Brad Pitt returning to the lead role and the inclusion of cinematographer Eric Messerschmidt and composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross ensuring that this will be a memorable experience.

Although there is still quite a bit of time until the movie’s premiere, there is no doubt that it will be one of the major cinematic events of the year. And although with its limited release it will not compete for the top spot of the highest-grossing films of the year, something it could do under different circumstances, it is undeniable that it will make its way onto many lists of the best films of the year. So we will have to keep an eye on what David Fincher offers us in his vision of this unique Tarantino film.

Steven Spielberg, recognized as one of the great film directors, will return to the science fiction genre in 2026 with his new project titled The Day of Revelation. This will be his return to the realm of science fiction after directing The Fabelmans (2022) and West Side Story (2021). Expectations are high among fans, especially considering his previous success with Ready Player One, which premiered in 2018 and grossed 582 million dollars at the box office.

The culprit for not knowing more: COVID

The sequel to Ready Player One, titled Ready Player Two, has been in development since its announcement in 2020. However, various setbacks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and more recently the strikes in Hollywood have affected its progress. Despite these obstacles, the author of the original novel, Ernest Cline, has confirmed that the saga is still in the plans, although Spielberg will only act as a producer this time.

The popularity of Ready Player One is evident in the fact that Cline’s novel remained on the New York Times bestseller list for 100 weeks. With this, the possibility of a sequel is reasonable and has a solid foundation due to the previous success. In this context, a graphic novel of Ready Player One will be released in the fall of 2026, followed by a graphic novel of Ready Player Two scheduled for 2028. According to Cline, this release could serve as a thermometer to gauge fan interest before the official film production is greenlit.

As the development of the sequel continues, fans of the franchise remain hopeful that news will emerge in the coming months, as the production team seeks to make progress on this highly anticipated project in the world of digital entertainment.

Scarlett Johansson, a prominent figure in Hollywood with over 30 years of acting on screen and two Oscar nominations, has shared her reflections on her journey in the film industry and the challenges she faced, especially in her early years.

In a recent interview, the actress revealed that she felt typecast due to her physical appearance, which affected the role opportunities offered to her in the early years of her career. This experience is not isolated, as many women in the industry have dealt with strict and often superficial beauty standards.

Her appearance was a problem for being taken seriously

Johansson mentioned that, during the early 2000s, it was socially acceptable to judge women by their appearance, which led to constant pressure to fit into certain aesthetic molds. However, throughout her career, she has observed a significant evolution in the representation of female roles in Hollywood.

The actress emphasized that roles for women have improved in the last decade, reflecting a change in how the industry approaches the conversation about gender representation.

This change is crucial, not only for actresses like Johansson but also for all women who wish to see authentic and diverse experiences reflected on screen. Currently, Hollywood is beginning to challenge these old standards and offer narratives that transcend the limitations imposed by physical appearances.

Johansson, as she continues her career, becomes a testament to the power of evolution in the entertainment industry, paving the way for future generations of actresses who succeed beyond the stigmas of the past.

The universe of God of War continues to expand, and it is not surprising that after almost 21 years since the release of the first game on PlayStation 2, the production of a series that will bring Kratos’ exploits to the small screen has been announced. This adaptation by Amazon Prime Video is intended to reflect the evolution of the saga and, as confirmed, Ryan Hurst will be the one to portray the iconic protagonist.

He is an actor with a most spectacular track record

Known for his roles in series like Sons of Anarchy and Bates Motel, Hurst has shown a remarkable resemblance to Kratos, despite his hair. Moreover, his previous experience in the God of War universe as the voice of Thor in the latest installment of the game, which earned him a BAFTA, makes him a fitting choice to bring the protagonist to life. The series promises to follow the narrative of the most recent video games, focusing on the relationship between Kratos and his son Atreus, which represents a significant step in the character’s evolution.

As Amazon seeks to capitalize on the success of video game adaptations, it has requested two seasons of the series, under the direction of Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and Outlander. The series is in pre-production, and its premiere is expected between late 2027 and early 2028, indicating that fans will need to be patient, but also that the project is taking solid shape.

With the lesson learned from previous adaptations, Hollywood has shown a more cautious approach in trying to meet gamers’ expectations. In fact, it is expected that this series will stay true to the essence of the latest games in the saga, a positive sign that suggests the narrative will not stray from the source material that has captured millions of hearts around the world.

France offers us a remake of one of the greatest (or smallest) classics of science fiction

The recent release of the Franco-Belgian version titled The Shrinking Man (L’homme qui rétrécit) has rekindled interest in one of the masterpieces of science fiction from the 1950s, The Incredible Shrinking Man, which premiered in 1957. This new adaptation tells the story of Paul, a family man who, after experiencing an unusual meteorological phenomenon, begins to shrink without scientific explanation. However, this remake has received lukewarm reviews in France and its box office performance has been disappointing, despite a trailer that evokes the excitement of the original classic.

A Shrinking Remake in the Reviews

The Incredible Shrinking Man, directed by Jack Arnold, has become a milestone in modern cinema, influencing contemporary productions such as Marvel’s Ant-Man. The original film addresses, through its dual narrative, the psychological drama of a man who sees his life crumble as he loses his size, followed by a thrilling survival adventure where everyday objects become weapons in a threatening world.

The new version, while trying to pay homage to the original source, faces the challenge of matching the impact and admiration that its predecessor has achieved, which has remained almost seven decades without a remake. It is worth remembering that there had already been an attempt at adaptation in Hollywood, which would involve the participation of the late writer Richard Matheson, planned to incorporate elements of nanotechnology and other modern concepts, but the project could not materialize after his death in 2013.

Fans of the classic can access the 1957 film through Filmin’s catalog, providing an opportunity for new audiences to discover this landmark of science fiction cinema.

Donald Trump wants to prevent Netflix from buying Warner Bros

The influence of Donald Trump in the entertainment industry remains a topic of great relevance, especially in the context of the recent offers to acquire Warner Bros. According to reports, the former U.S. president is exerting significant pressure on those interested in purchasing the iconic company, prompting other bidders to reevaluate their strategies. This move has generated much anticipation in Hollywood, where it is speculated that Trump’s decisions could alter the balance of the acquisition process.

Trump is with David Ellison

The impact of Trump on the bidding process seems to favor David Ellison, an executive known for his work in film and television. The actions of the former president have given Ellison a competitive edge, possibly improving his chances in the race for Warner Bros. This development has sparked a series of rumors in the industry about what other offers might arise as a result of this intervention.

As the entertainment industry watches closely, many analysts highlight the almost constant anticipation of Trump’s decisions since his return to the political stage. The current situation suggests that the dynamics of the acquisition market are not only determined by the economic value of the offers but also by the intentions and influence of transient political figures. Can Trump’s maneuvers radically change the configuration of companies within Hollywood? This is a question that remains in the air as the purchasing process unfolds.

In summary, Donald Trump’s decisions are having a tangible effect on the bidding for Warner Bros., benefiting certain bidders and complicating the landscape for others. The situation is a clear reminder of the intertwining of politics and entertainment, a realm where news can emerge at any moment, affecting multiple players in the large film and television industry.
