The studio Klei Entertainment has expanded its universe with the announcement of Away Team, a survival and exploration side-scrolling game that follows the misadventures of a Duplicant who finds themselves separated from their colony. The reveal took place during Klei Fest 2025, where a trailer showcasing charming animations and the gameplay of the title was also released.
A quite interesting premise, although equally strange
Away Team offers a more relaxed experience compared to Oxygen Not Included, providing building mechanics that allow for a less rigid and more creative design. The images have shown that blocks are not limited to a grid, allowing the use of ducts, pipes, and diagonal cables. As in other titles from the studio, players will need to manage resources while facing various challenges to survive in a hostile environment.
The trailer highlights the dynamic interaction with the environment, where temperature simulation, convection, and states of matter directly affect gameplay. Players will handle chaotic situations, such as the risk of evaporating drinking water in the midst of a fire. Klei has described the game stating that “maybe a little oxygen is included”, suggesting that survival will be an intense experience, possibly as tough as in Don’t Starve.
For now, Away Team does not have a release date, but interested parties can follow the game stream that Klei will hold on Twitch on June 13 at 7:30 PM PT. Additionally, during Klei Fest 2025, promotions on other titles from the studio are being offered through Steam, which represents an opportunity for fans to delve into Klei’s catalog.
