The movie Return to Silent Hill has had a rocky start, receiving a score of only 16% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, while the audience has given it a 30%. This adaptation of the beloved video game has been praised for its creature designs but criticized for a confusing plot, mediocre visual effects, and over-the-top performances.

Don’t look for me anymore, I don’t live there anymore…

Christophe Gans, the director who also helmed the movie Silent Hill in 2006, has expressed his desire to continue exploring the Silent Hill universe. In a recent interview with Variety, Gans stated that he considers the saga not only as a great video game but as a modern work of art. He claims that there are stories within the Silent Hill universe that are extremely good and could lead to a new adaptation that would differ both from his first film and from Return to Silent Hill.

Despite the negative criticism, Gans has noticed a considerable interest in his work, indicating that there is still an audience willing to dive into the dark world of Silent Hill. “If I have the opportunity, we will return to Silent Hill once again”, he commented, suggesting that the quality of some stories from the video game could offer a new perspective that has not been explored in its previous adaptations.

Return to Silent Hill is currently in theaters, and although its reception has been divisive, Gans’ passion for the source material suggests that more contributions from this terrifying world can still be expected.
