2XKO receives its first open alpha, with a small problem

Riot Games ha anunciado la primera alfa pública de su juego de lucha, 2XKO, anteriormente conocido como Project L, con un pequeño problema

Riot Games has decided to take the route of slow but steady growth. Expanding methodically and very carefully, they’ve been tackling one genre at a time, trying to ensure success in each of their niches. Almost always achieving success and always delivering remarkable games, this strategy has allowed them not only to survive but to grow relentlessly over the years. And it seems that their next game on the horizon is already well established.

The next genre they’re going to tackle, as is well known, is the fighting-games genre. With a game called 2XKO, previously known by the much more easy-to-pronounce name, Project L, Riot Games promises a 2v2 team fighting game with characters from Runeterra—the League of Legends world.

The good news is, if you’re looking forward to playing the game, you won’t have to wait much longer. 2XKO will be playable for the first time in a public play-test for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation, and PC starting August 8th, and you can register for it already. The downside is that it’s limited to specific countries. To participate in this public alpha, you’ll need to be from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Japan, or Mexico. If you don’t reside in one of these territories, we’re afraid you won’t be able to participate in the public alpha.

After confirmation that streaming will be not just permitted but encouraged, at least it’ll be possible to enjoy the game using that mode for people outside those seven countries. In that trajectory, Riot wanted to make very clear that this is an alpha. 2XKO is nowhere near being a complete game. All the polish one would expect from a commercial, finished game is not present yet, so it’s to be expected that there are many parts still to be completed, and it must be accepted that this is a conceptual sample, not the final game.

We reserve the best news for last, which is that although not everyone will be able to play this alpha, it seems that there’s finally a date on the horizon when we’ll be able to do it. Riot has confirmed that 2XKO will be released sometime in 2025. Without a more specific timeframe—simply stating that it will arrive sometime during the year—and without specifying whether it’ll be in the form of an open beta, closed beta, or full release, at least one thing is clear: the game is moving towards its final stages of development. Which means that from now on, we should start to hear a lot of news about 2XKO.

League of Legends has a new anti-piracy system that, depending on who you ask, can either break or not break your computer

The new anti-piracy system in League of Legends is breaking players’ computers, but Riot says there’s no evidence of it.

If there is something as old as games, it is cheaters. There are countless reasons why people cheat. To win, to have fun, to be above others. There are many and it is impossible to enumerate them all. However, especially in competitive video games, cheating is something that is sought to be tackled with maximum efficiency. Even if sometimes that means harming those who do not cheat.

On April 30th, Riot, the company behind League of Legends, announced that patch 14.9 would be released on May 1st. In addition to the usual balance changes and bug fixes, the new update added something that no one expected or wanted. Vanguard. The proprietary anti-cheat system used by Riot Games in their shooter game, Valorant. According to the studio, this is due to the ongoing cat-and-mouse game they have with hackers who enable cheating in their games. And the reactions were not long in coming.

League of Legends players, since May 2nd, have been commenting that Vanguard has caused their computers to not turn on. The specific problem is that if you are a Windows 11 user, you must have UEFI and TPM2.0 enabled in BIOS, or the computer will not boot because of Vanguard. Something that players have not taken kindly to.

Riot’s response to these comments has been as disappointing as it could be. First, they claimed that they had no evidence that Vanguard was causing these issues. Then, they said it only happened on Windows 11 and affected less than 0.03% of players. Finally, they provided a series of solutions, although under the premise that it is not confirmed in any way that the problem is Vanguard. Something that has been studied and proven since Valorant started using it.

That’s why it seems that Vanguard is going to continue preventing computers from turning on, or existing in an eternal loop of startup attempts. Riot doesn’t seem willing to do anything on their part, even when everything points in their direction. And while not all cases are like Nick “LS” De Cesare’s, a professional League of Legends player and streamer who has seen two computers where the game was installed being bricked, it only takes it happening to one person for Riot to have to take action on the matter.

The second season of Arcane already has a release date

Netflix has finally confirmed the date of Arcane, the League of Legends animated series, but we fear that we will still have to wait

League of Legends is not everyone’s cup of tea. Although the game has a reputation for being complex, and full of people with toxic attitudes, that does not mean that its universe is a very rich and interesting one. Full of charismatic characters, places of interest, and a number of stories, events and situations that would make for an infinite number of stories, it is understandable not to like the game, but its universe has potential for something more. Which is exactly what Riot did with the first season of Arcane, of which Netflix has just announced its second season.

Although it has been announced, we must warn you not to expect it anytime soon. Netflix announced on Thursday, November 9th, that the League of Legends spinoff series will not premiere until November 2024.

If you’re one of those who like to know everything before series begin, we’re afraid we have even more bad news for you. Netflix has said absolutely nothing about what this second season will be about, giving us nothing more than a teaser of just 15 seconds, where we see a Jinx not having a very good time. This makes us guess that we will follow her closely, wherever she goes, and given that in the first season, she ended up being an important part of the plot, we don’t rule out that Noxus may be the place she decides to go after becoming the most wanted woman in Piltover.

This would align with the release date of the first season, which premiered on November 6, 2021. Therefore, it is expected that the final date will also be in early November.

For the rest, everything will continue as usual. It will still be produced by Fortiche Studios, the studio responsible for the first season, and Riot Games. In addition to confirming that Hailee Steinfeld will return as Vi, Ella Purnell as Jinx, and Katie Leung as Caitlyn. So, one thing is certain. Even if we move away from Piltover, we won’t be straying far from its characters.
