If you couldn’t stop playing Overcooked, here comes Sedap!: A Culinary Adventure, a game designed for two players that combines cooking mechanics with combat elements, offering a very original and dynamic experience. Developed by a small team from Singapore, this proposal started as a student project and promises to take players to the dangerous Khaya Island to collect ingredients while facing both culinary and combat challenges.
What a delight, what a pleasure to be in the kitchen
Unlike other titles in the genre, such as Overcooked, Sedap focuses on the mechanical difficulty of foraging for ingredients, creating a friendlier and less chaotic environment. Players take on the roles of Som and Gon, two cooks who must venture into nature to gather the necessary components for their recipes, from tea leaves to meats from native creatures. While exploring the world, players must use cooking tools in outdoor areas and overcome mini-games to prepare the dishes.
The game features recipes inspired by Southeast Asian cuisine, with a whimsical approach that invites players to experiment with new creations. The Sedap demo is available during the Steam Couch Co-Op Festival, which runs until February 17, and offers six initial levels. However, it has received criticism regarding the visibility of the icons indicating the next dish to prepare.
As players progress on Khaya Island, new recipes and tools are unlocked, enriching the experience. Although the online multiplayer mode has not yet been implemented, fans of online cooperative games will find in Sedap a promising option to enjoy together. The full version of the game plans to include more locations and activities, which promises an interesting future for this culinary experience.
