The successful Star Wars series, Andor, which was originally conceived as an epic of five seasons, will come to an end sooner than expected with a second season that promises to be fast-paced and intense. This new installment will be divided into four batches of three “chapters,” with each one jumping a year in the narrative, adding an unexpected twist to the plot and structure of the series.
A structure fostered by Covid
The creator of the series, Tony Gilroy, shared in a recent interview with SFX Magazine that this change in the narrative arose “from desperation” during filming, which was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Gilroy explained that as production progressed, the magnitude of the show became increasingly evident, and they realized there wasn’t enough time to stick to the original plan. “Disney saved us by saying, ‘Okay, if you can find a way to do it, we’re in,'” he recalled.
This innovative adaptation would bring Andor even closer to the events of the movie Rogue One. In addition, Diego Luna, who reprises his role as Cassian Andor, commented that for this second season they have filmed “four movies,” reflecting the monumental effort that has been invested in this new narrative. Gilroy also emphasized that they will use the negative spaces between the time jumps to create a unique experience.
The first episode of the second season of Andor will premiere on Disney Plus on April 22, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how this innovative series transforms its narrative approach. The conversation around Andor continues, and with its bold experience, it promises to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
