Recently, some controversy has arisen regarding a possible collaboration between Fortnite and Helldivers 2, although there is no concrete evidence to support this speculation. Notable similarities have been revealed in the new season of Fortnite, titled Shock ‘N Awesome, which recalls elements of gameplay and design from the world of Helldivers, particularly in explosive strategies and enemy creature designs.
Suspiciously Similar
Shams Jorjani, CEO of Arrowhead, developer of Helldivers, dropped a comment on Discord that many have interpreted as sarcastic. In response to a fan who noted the similarities between both franchises, Jorjani commented that the new season of Fortnite feels “very democratic,” suggesting a sense of familiarity. However, despite some enthusiasts believing this could hint at an imminent crossover, sources like the well-known leaker Shiina have stated that there are no tangible signs of a collaboration in the works.
On the other hand, the Arrowhead team has made it clear that they are evaluating potential future collaborations, but with a selective approach regarding the intellectual properties they choose. In an additional interaction, Jorjani was less than enthusiastic in dismissing a proposal to partner with Umamusume, describing it as “a great difficulty.” This makes it clear that while Arrowhead is open to collaborations, not all IPs are considered suitable.
In addition, it has been indicated that Arrowhead’s next project will start with a smaller team, a decision influenced by the difficulties encountered during the development of Helldivers 2, which began with a team that was too large. This pre-production strategy could facilitate a smoother development process in their upcoming creative challenges.
