Johnny Depp, known for his prolific career in Hollywood, celebrated the 40th anniversary of his film debut with the iconic horror movie A Nightmare on Elm Street. Since that moment, his career has been filled with notable successes, although the last few years have been marked by a highly publicized trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, which has been extensively discussed in the docuseries Depp vs. Heard on Netflix.
Throughout his career, Depp has formed a close professional bond with director Tim Burton, with whom he has collaborated on classics like Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow. However, his most iconic role, that of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, allowed him to achieve unprecedented stardom, becoming one of the most memorable characters in contemporary cinema.
A rather simple and predictable choice
Recently, Depp has shared his admiration for the legendary actor Marlon Brando, whom he considers the best performer of the last two centuries. According to statements to Far Out Magazine, Depp values Brando’s mind more than his acting, highlighting his way of observing and evaluating the world. Remembering his relationship with Brando, Depp revealed a piece of advice he was given: to take a sabbatical year to study Shakespeare, a recommendation that has led him to contemplate the idea of playing Hamlet.
Although he acknowledges that taking on this role is a formidable and terrifying challenge, Depp points out that it is crucial to experience the fear of failure as part of the creative process. “If I do Hamlet, it will probably be in a small theater on a modest stage and it has to be soon, because time is running out for me,” said the actor, who continues to challenge his artistic limits at every stage of his career.
