The news was revealed during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, marking the return of this beloved animated universe that blends cosmic adventures with deep emotional themes.

The story of ‘Lars of the Stars’ will focus on Laramie Barriga, known as Lars, an unusual baker who becomes a space captain. In this new installment, viewers will be able to explore the intrigues of intergalactic smuggling, as well as dark secrets of the Gem Empire. The narrative will not only follow the antics of Lars and his crew of outlaws, known as the Off Colors, but will also delve into the past, present, and future of the Steven Universe universe.
Rebecca Sugar, the original creator of the series, returns as executive producer alongside Ian Jones-Quartey, veteran writer of ‘Steven Universe’ and creator of ‘OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes’. This collaboration ensures that the essence and aesthetics of the original series endure in this new production, although it is currently in a very early stage of development and the cast has not been confirmed.
‘Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars’ represents the third series of the franchise after ‘Steven Universe Future’, which served as a reflective epilogue about the protagonist’s emotions and responsibilities.
