The creators of “Stranger Things,” Matt and Ross Duffer, have finally revealed the origin of the Upside Down, a mystery they have kept secret for almost a decade.
In an interview, Ross Duffer explained that from the very beginning of the series, they knew that the Upside Down would play a crucial role in the narrative. “Since the first season, we have wanted to keep certain surprises, and the Upside Down has been the most significant of all,” he commented.
The fourth season delved into the story of multiple dimensions, making it clear that the Upside Down was created in 1983 thanks to Eleven’s powers, although there are other dimensions, including one where Henry Creel was banished.
A mystery with more than a decade behind it
The fifth and final season promises to take the characters, who are now under military quarantine in Hawkins, to a dark conclusion. According to the trailer, Mike, Eleven, and their group plan to hunt Vecna, intensifying the tension as the threat of the Upside Down looms over the town.
This dark environment will not only complicate the dynamics between characters, such as Mike and Eleven, but it will also offer spectacular scenes and visual effects, elements that the Duffer brothers are proud to present.
As part of building the narrative, Matt Duffer highlighted that the revelation of the Upside Down connects all the loose ends that have been present throughout the series. “Most of the unresolved mysteries are related to the Upside Down. Being able to finally reveal it is extremely satisfying,” he stated.
This leaves fans eager for the premiere of season 5, scheduled for November 26. Meanwhile, seasons 1 to 4 are available on Netflix, providing rich context before the culmination of this epic story.
