His nephew Dewey, on the other hand, grapples with the loss of his mother and meets a mysterious relative from the past. The episode balances its humanity with humor, and did we mention it features a Sinatra-style Christmas riff of the iconic DuckTales theme? It’s perfect whether you’ve seen all the DuckTales series or if this is your first episode.
Mickey’s Christmas Tales
When it comes to 2D animated adaptations of A Christmas Carol, Mickey Mouse ranks among the top three of all time, alongside Richard Williams’ impeccable Oscar-winning short in 1971 and Mister Magoo’s, which was the first animated special made for television.
Time hasn’t diminished the heart of the short or the fun of seeing characters like Jiminy Cricket guiding him toward a more charitable view of life. The special was directed by Burny Mattinson, who, at 84 years old, continues to work at Disney and is officially the longest-serving employee of the company since joining in 1953.
Kim Possible: A Very Possible Christmas
Kim Possible’s Christmas episode shows that even teenage secret agents need a break.
When Kim’s ever-fumbling sidekick, Ron Stoppable, decides to gift her a day off to save the world for Christmas, he ends up in a shouting match with the series’ arch-villain, Drakken, in the North Pole and still needs her help.
Fortunately, Kim’s friends and family rally to assist her in thwarting the classic scheme.
Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation
“The kids turn their city into a thank-you card for Santa Claus, and all chaos breaks loose” turned out to be a solid slogan. Disney+ made a mistake and only included the 22-minute version of this episode, but it’s still a gold mine of cartoons.
All episodes of Phineas and Ferb featured original music written by co-creators Swampy Marsh and Dan Povenmire, but this special had a whopping 15 songs.
Pluto’s Christmas Tree
The best Mickey Mouse is a blissfully ignorant Mickey Mouse. In this seven-minute short from 1952, Mickey’s obedient dog, Pluto, battles the chipmunks Chip and Dale, who have taken refuge in Mickey’s Christmas tree and begin causing chaos right under his nose.
Directed by the legendary Jack Hannah, who directed 94 Disney animated shorts and helped develop the character of Donald Duck, the short begins with wintertime antics outdoors before culminating in crashing ornaments and a tree-toppling disaster. One of the finest Pluto shorts on Disney+.
The Simpsons: Marge Be Not Proud, Skinner’s Sense of Snow and She of Little Faith
The Simpson have many Christmas episodes, but these three specifically focus on deep and hilarious stories involving Bart and Lisa. “Marge Be Not Proud” tests Bart’s moral compass when Marge discovers he’s been shoplifting—a plot based on writer Mike Scully’s real life.
The Emmy-nominated “She of Little Faith,” a certified classic, is the episode where Lisa converts from Christianity to Buddhism.
