The creator of Elden Ring claims that he is really bad at video games

El director de Elden Ring y creador de la saga Souls ha confirmado que no es un jugador muy habilidoso y que cree que las mecánicas están ahí para algo.

Every fandom has its fair share of annoying people. But let’s not kid ourselves. Few fandoms have as many annoying fans as the From Software games fandom. Players who tell others how they should beat the games and claim that they haven’t truly beaten the game if they’ve used certain game mechanics are, ultimately, a negative part of the experience of playing these kinds of games. It’s something hard to stomach, and oftentimes, it makes the experience worse for all the other players.

There is no reason why a player shouldn’t use whatever they want in a video game. And in an interview by The Guardian with Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of Elden Ring, as well as director and CEO of From Software, it seems that he shares this impression. Especially as he does not consider himself a professional player.

Although he stated that he doesn’t enjoy playing his games once they’re complete because he finds things that bother him, he has made an exception with Elden Ring to prepare for Shadow of the Erdtree. This is quite a challenge, since Miyazaki himself admits that he’s “terrible in video games.” That’s why his strategy is to use all the tools available, literally “every help, every little detail that the game can provide and all the knowledge he has as an architect of the game.”

Obviously, this is remarkably funny. That the creator of a video game franchise known for being tremendously difficult admits to being a very clumsy player is, to say the least, comical. Moreover, that he disproves the most toxic part of the community by affirming that he himself uses all the game’s tools without any shame at all, truly elevates it to hilarious. It makes us ask ourselves the question: Why should the rest of us be ashamed of using the tools the game gives us? Just so some strange guy on the Internet can’t judge us?

If Hidetaka Miyazaki can use the Mimic Tear, so can you. So instead of continuing to complain about the difficulty, let’s accept the obvious: Shadow of the Erdtree is designed around the idea that the player will use all the tools at their disposal. Just like Miyazaki has done. Nothing is something that was thought of afterwards. Nothing is off limits. If someone who claims to have no gaming skills can beat Elden Ring simply by using all the tools at their disposal, and on top of that, they are the creator of the game, who are we to question it?
