The creators of Guacamelee delay their anticipated action RPG until 2027

DrinkBox Studios are one of the most interesting and consistent indie studios on the global scene. Their games include excellent titles like Tales from Space: About a Blob, Severed, Nobody Saves the World and especially the two Guacamelee! games, two very well-known and beloved action games that put us in the shoes of a masked Mexican wrestler who had to save the world. And they were supposed to release a new game in 2026, but now they’ve announced that it’s going to be delayed.

A game that needs a little more time

Blighted, their new game announced for fall 2026, has been delayed to sometime in 2027. The reason they’ve given is that they need more time to polish and fine-tune the title, especially because it will feature online and local multiplayer for two players. They have, however, confirmed that they’ll have an update on the game’s development before the end of the year.

Blighted is an action RPG with metroidvania-style exploration and a metroidvania nightmare aesthetic that was shown last February during a Nintendo Indie World broadcast. It’s still set for Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to play it. But it looks like that’s to make sure we can enjoy it in the best possible shape.
