Owlcat Games has announced The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a new third-person action RPG set in The Expanse universe. It’s headed to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and the studio is aiming for a spring 2027 release.
The game runs alongside the early books and the TV series, so this isn’t a return to James Holden and the Rocinante. You take command of the Gemini as a customizable mercenary captain, with an Earther, Martian, or Belter background. According to Owlcat Games, your crew includes your twin executive officer J, mechanic Zafar, sharpshooter Regina, medic Teo, mercenary Michael, and more companions that still haven’t been revealed.
Your decisions shape relationships both on the ship and away from it, which helps explain why some early viewers are already bringing up Mass Effect. Owlcat Games says James Holden and other familiar faces still fit into the canon, along with some original voice actors. Early closed-beta reactions have praised the visuals and the grounded hard-sci-fi feel. The writing and dialogue will need to land too, given the standard set by the novels and the TV adaptation.
If you follow The Expanse and want to see the universe do more than trade on nostalgia, especially with Dragon Tooth and The Captive’s War also expanding the franchise, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn looks like one to keep an eye on.
