Disney Plus has become an unparalleled home for Star Wars. The streaming platform has hosted all the dreams of franchise fans for years: from the mythical The Mandalorian to series featuring iconic characters such as Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi or Ahsoka Tano.
However, now it is another series that Star Wars fans are eagerly awaiting: The Acolyte. While we wait for its first trailer, which will be released shortly, they have already let us know the release date of the series: June 4th. Although there are still a few months left and we know very little about it, there is no doubt that the expectations they are setting from the platform itself make it clear that it aims to be a fiction on par with The Mandalorian.
A series about the High Republic
So you can see how curious everything is, the series is described (and officially, mind you), as a combination of Frozen and Kill Bill. What does that mean? We’re not very sure, but we do know when it will be set: in the High Republic Era, approximately 2,500 years before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy.
In The Acolyte, we will be able to explore this beloved era by Star Wars fans and yet so unexplored. In this way, we can explore this universe from a very different time and, moreover, from a very different point of view, since the series will focus on the enemies of the Jedi Order, the Sith.
Instead of seeing the battle between good and evil again, The Acolyte will explore the dark side of the Force, with a groundbreaking perspective for the saga that aims to be unique in that aspect. As they define it, themes such as power, pain, corruption, and redemption will be explored. We’ll see how it all turns out, but we couldn’t be more excited.
