The horror genre is enjoying an impressive boom. In recent years, we have seen the emergence of films by directors like Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, Robert Eggers, or Mike Flanagan that demonstrate that horror is still very strong. But there is another high-caliber film that is on its way to becoming a major franchise: Smile.
In 2022, Parker Finn’s movie was a resounding success and caused many nightmares with its shocking premise. And, as expected, the movie will have a sequel. Smile 2 is scheduled to be released next October, and Finn will return as director. We have just received its first teaser trailer and it couldn’t be more chilling. Take a look below.
A movie much bigger than its predecessor
In this sequel to Smile (2022), international pop star Skye Riley, played by Naomi Scott, is about to embark on a new world tour. However, her life takes a terrifying turn when she begins to be stalked by a series of inexplicable and increasingly chilling events.
As these horrors intensify and the pressure of her fame becomes unbearable, Skye is forced to confront the demons of her past. With her life and career in danger, she must desperately fight to regain control before it’s too late.
In some way, Smile 2 combines the unsettling premise of the first movie with the heaviness of fame and being a pop diva, something we have already seen in disturbing films like Perfect Blue or its American counterpart, Black Swan.
The supernatural psychological horror film will be released in theaters on October 18th. For now, we must continue being careful with the unsettling smiles.
