One Piece is one of the most important works of fiction of our time. It is also one of the most extensive. With a number of manga volumes and anime episodes completely unattainable for the average person, many people who would be interested in following it simply do not have the means to do so. That’s why it is no surprise that there are attempts to find ways to make it easier for more people to enter the franchise. Like, for example, with a remake.
Although we already knew about the existence of the One Piece remake, now we know more details about it. During the streaming of The One Piece Day ’24, some details about it have been revealed. Some of them are very important. It’s clear that this remake is meant to produce not only the definitive version of the anime, but also one that brings together some of the most important names in the anime industry.
The most surprising thing has been to discover that the director of this remake will be Masashi Koizuka, director of Moonrise and Attack on Titan. Alongside him, Taku Kishimoto stands out as the scriptwriter, as he was the writer of two highly appreciated series in that field such as Haikyu! and Ranking of Kings. Similarly, the action animator is Shuhei Fukuda, who was the animation director in seasons 4 and 6 of My Hero Academia, and Tomonori Kuroda serves as the art director, having worked on A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun.
This dream team of creatives is completed with some other notable names, even if they are less flashy. Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda are the character designer and the animation director, while Eri Taguchi is in charge of prop design. Considering that all three have excelled in those roles in the past, it feels like they are aiming for every little detail of this One Piece remake to be outstanding, seeking the perfect name for each position.
Although we don’t have a release date, this remake will arrive on Netflix at some point in the future. Designed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the anime, this remake will begin adapting from the East Blue Saga. Whether it will exclusively adapt this arc or adapt more is something we still don’t know, but we are excited about the outcome of this interesting project.
