The new movie from the famous Karate Kid franchise, titled Karate Kid: Legends, will premiere on August 8 in Spanish cinemas. This installment, the sixth since the original was released in 1984, promises a fresh and exciting approach, combining nostalgic elements with innovations in storytelling and martial arts. Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, this film comes after a long hiatus in the film saga, following the attempted reboot in 2010 and just after the successful Netflix series, Cobra Kai.
A Movie with a Big Heart
On this occasion, the young kung-fu prodigy, Li Fong, played by Ben Wang, becomes the new Karate Kid. Li moves to New York after a family tragedy and, despite his intention to leave fighting behind, his passion leads him to get involved in a new conflict. To face this challenge, he will team up with the iconic Mr. Han, a role that Jackie Chan returns to, and Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio, who appears as a more mature and wise mentor.
Entwistle has pointed out that the expectations for this movie are high, promising “a lot of heart and many impactful action scenes.” Macchio also highlights the growth of his character throughout the series and movies, reflecting a more balanced and mature Daniel. The dynamic between LaRusso and Han is presented as an enriching crossover between karate and kung-fu styles, adding a new dimension to the story.
The movie not only seeks to pay homage to its predecessors but also opens the door for future adventures. With the expectation that Ben Wang will continue in his role, Karate Kid: Legends marks a new chapter in the beloved martial arts franchise.
