Beyond The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Amazon Prime Video’s significant contribution to fantasy is The Wheel of Time. The series, which premiered in 2021, has already had two successful seasons on the streaming platform, but the literature it’s based on is so extensive that there’s much more to explore. And of course, they’re going to do it.
While the filming of the third season of the series is on hold due to the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike, an animated film about the world of The Wheel of Time for Amazon Prime Video has just been announced. As reported by Deadline, it will be a feature film that serves as a prequel to the established narrative of the VOD service program.

A new great adventure of The Wheel of Time
Jay Oliva, an animation director with extensive experience in Marvel and DC Comics films—known for successes like Batman: The Dark Knight or Batman: Assault on Arkham—will lead this new project. Dubbed ‘The White Tower,’ the animated adventure will be in 3D and will tell the story of a young woman forced to travel alone to the titular place to train with the Aes Sedai.
This animated project by Amazon Prime Video is planned to begin production in early 2024, and Jay Oliva himself has made it clear that he’s very excited to bring it to life:
I’m very excited to join this incredible creative team. Reading Robert Jordan’s ‘The Wheel of Time’ inspired me to become a filmmaker, and having the opportunity to explore the world he created has been one of my lifelong dreams. The rich history of ‘The White Tower’ has intrigued me, and the extensive backstory of the books gives the creative team the freedom to tell a fresh and imaginative story within the familiar world that Jordan designed so meticulously in ‘The Wheel of Time’.
