The Windows 11 weather app will receive a change after many years

Windows has been faithful to old applications for many years with a simple but reliable service, and the weather app is one of them. For that reason, in Windows 11, the update of this service is already on its way, which, with a little touch-up, will be renewed to offer improvements in its service, something important considering that it is used daily by millions of users, even if it is a slight change.

The weather app that can be seen in the toolbars or on the lock screen of Windows 11 is based on the design that was made for Windows 8. Yes, that infamous system that Windows tried to bury as soon as possible by advancing the arrival of Windows 10.

New weather application

As highlighted on Neowin, this update, already available in its developer version, stands out for redesigning the widget that appears on the lock screen, which offers the possibility to expand the weather content by clicking, opening a tab in the browser with all the details about the weather you want to check.

However, every coin has two sides. And the fact is that Microsoft is still determined to force its services on users and, when you click on the weather information to expand it, your PC will ignore your default browser and open Microsoft Edge with all the weather details you wanted to check. It is a more complete service, but Microsoft forces you to use their own browser.

Time for changes at Microsoft

There is no doubt that 2023 has been a very eventful year in terms of changes within Microsoft. The rumors of Windows 12 after the visible stumble of Windows 11 in this generation, the arrival of Microsoft Copilot to the lives of Windows 11 users (and soon to Windows 10 users) and the numerous updates that the company has made show that it has been a very intense year in its roadmap.

Now, after the foundations laid in the past year, 2024 is shaping up as the perfect opportunity for Microsoft to establish its projects: an Artificial Intelligence reference in the technology sector with the services offered by Copilot, a possible Windows 12 that is capable of attracting the bulk of Windows 10 stragglers, and the enhancement of its main services to be increasingly used by Windows users.
