Apple has unveiled the new Apple TV 4K at the Welcome Home event. On the outside, it looks the same, but the number of new features in this generation is significant. Let’s go over how it stacks up against the previous model to answer a simple question: should I upgrade?
More power, Siri AI, and better connectivity
The Apple TV 4K comes with the A19 chip, with up to 50% more CPU and double the graphics performance compared with the A15 in the previous model. As far as we know, it will come with 8GB of RAM versus the current 4GB and will also come with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 and support for AV1 and VP9. Apple narrows the lineup to a single 128GB storage option with Ethernet, centers the indicator light, and increases the weight by 1% due to the changes in the internal hardware.
Internal hardware that now includes three far-field microphones that let you use Siri AI, while an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence provides your personal context. Siri AI will come to the 2021 and 2022 Apple TV models with tvOS 27.2, yes, but it will be only the new model will let you use it hands-free. Unlike the previous model, the new one supports four HomePods connected at once to create truly immersive sound.
A much easier-to-locate Siri Remote
the remote debuts support for the Find My app, Precision Finding, and also includes a speaker to make it ring and find it more easily. Because of that, it’s 6% heavier. Precision Finding, though, requires an iPhone 17 or later.
With pre-orders now open and the launch set for November 13, this is a very interesting refresh. One that improves a device that already seemed unbeatable, and not only with a new chip, but with features that substantially change how we enjoy our TV.
