James Cameron still has many Avatar films left to make, which may occupy him for the entire future of his filmmaking life. However, beyond his beloved franchise, the director sometimes goes on to direct small documentaries, specials or other types of productions. And the rumor mill is abuzz with one that would make perfect sense for him to direct.
We all remember that, very recently, a group of five people went down by submarine to see the sunken wreck of the Titanic. However, their ship called Titan imploded and they ended up dying, as we learned after days of long search in which everyone wondered what had happened down there.
Since then, some have wondered whether James Cameron, Titanic’s ultimate champion, would like to make a film or documentary about the incident dubbed OceanGate. And although he had kept silent, he has now made his position very clear on Twitter.
No, he is not going to make an OceanGate movie.
“I don’t normally respond to offensive rumors in the media, but I need to do so now. I am NOT in talks about an OceanGate movie, nor will I ever be.”
It is clear that James Cameron not only thought the idea was a bad idea, but that he felt it was in bad taste. It is certainly too early to do anything about it, although considering that Cameron has been down to see the ruins of the Titanic on so many occasions, he would be the perfect person to do something about it.
In the meantime, we can enjoy Avatar: the sense of water on Disney Plus, as well as wait for the rest of the films about the franchise that the director of Terminator 2 is carrying out for the coming years.
