On December 11, during The Game Awards ceremony, an announcement related to one of the most iconic video game franchises will be confirmed: Tomb Raider. Geoff Keighley, host and organizer of the event, stated that “Lara Croft returns to The Game Awards” and teased a look at “the future of the franchise” that fans won’t want to miss.
A most unexpected remake
It has been reported that Crystal Dynamics is working on a remake of the original Tomb Raider game, released in 1996. This remake could be part of the announcement that will be made at the event. Additionally, the studio is developing a new Tomb Raider title that will be published by Amazon, which represents a significant step for the series, which has evolved considerably since its debut.
At the same time, Amazon is also producing a live-action series of Tomb Raider for Prime Video, in which actress Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, will take on the role of Lara Croft. This suggests that the franchise aims to expand its presence not only in the world of video games but also in the television entertainment sector.
Apart from the Tomb Raider announcement, The Game Awards will also reveal a new game in the Total War series and present a trailer for Resident Evil Requiem. The event will start at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET and will make history, as the game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has received 12 nominations, including a recognition for Game of the Year, setting a new record in the history of the event.
With so much at stake, both fans and critics are eager to find out what the future holds for Tomb Raider and other major titles at The Game Awards.
