There’s just something incredibly satisfying about sharing animated GIFs. Twitter understands this, so today, the company introduced support for GIFs in your timeline.
GIFs in your timeline won’t animate until you click on them, which helps save bandwidth. Once clicked, a GIF will loop infinitely until you click on it again to pause.
Things work the same in the mobile apps. GIFS show up with a blue “play” button, which expands the tapped tweet and starts playing the GIF.
Facebook still hasn’t built animated GIF support into its timeline but added support for them in its messages yesterday. Unfortunately the feature currently only works on the web.
