Ubisoft has shared details about the performance modes for its upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will be released on March 20, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. According to an article published on the official PlayStation blog, the game will offer three display modes on the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles: performance, fidelity, and balanced, all with upscaled 4K resolution.
A performance that is not too impressive even on PS5 Pro
In terms of frame rates, players can expect 60 fps in performance mode, 30 fps in fidelity mode, and 40 fps in balanced mode, the latter specifically designed for screens that support variable refresh rate and HDMI 2.1. These specifications aim to provide users with customized options to enjoy the game according to their preferences and available hardware.
One of the most notable features of the game is the use of ray tracing. In the performance mode of the PS5, ‘selective’ ray tracing will be applied, which limits global illumination to the Hideout, the game’s base of operations. In contrast, the PS5 Pro will offer ‘extended ray tracing’ in the fidelity and balanced modes, which will include full ray tracing support to calculate global illumination, covering both diffuse lighting and reflective surfaces throughout the entire game world.
However, it is still unclear whether players will be able to completely disable ray tracing to improve performance in the different game modes. Although ray tracing provides an interesting visual experience, many players would prefer to have a more solid performance base.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows aims to provide a visually rich experience, standing out for how it will leverage the hardware of the new generation. With its imminent release, the anticipation to see how these features develop continues to grow.
