V for Vendetta, James McTeigue’s 2006 dystopian sci-fi thriller, has landed on Paramount+, which puts it in front of a whole new wave of viewers almost 20 years after it first came out. The Wachowskis wrote the screenplay, adapting Alan Moore and David Lloyd’s comic, and the story follows Hugo Weaving’s masked V and Natalie Portman’s Evey Hammond in a fascist version of Britain. The movie is also heading back to theaters for limited screenings on November 1 and 5, 2026, and those showings will include an exclusive James McTeigue featurette.
What’s striking is how little the movie’s core ideas have faded. Its take on surveillance, propaganda, fear, media manipulation, government overreach, the erosion of civil liberties, freedom, identity, dissent, and resistance still hits. A lot of viewers also keep coming back to the same detail: the government-engineered virus and the fear-driven messaging around it, which is a big part of why the film still feels so current.
If you missed V for Vendetta the first time around, there’s a lot here to come back for. It has the cult reputation, for one, plus a strong supporting cast that includes Stephen Rea, Stephen Fry, John Hurt, Tim Pigott-Smith, and Rupert Graves. It also pulled in $134.7 million worldwide, holds a 73% critics’ score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and left behind the Guy Fawkes mask as a cultural symbol long after the planned HBO TV adaptation stalled out.
You can stream V for Vendetta now on Paramount+, or catch the limited theatrical re-release on November 1 and 5, 2026.
