V. Pappas, the Chief Operating Officer of TikTok, has submitted her resignation letter this week. As reported by The Information, Pappas informed the company’s employees that she is stepping down from her role as COO and believes that “it is the right time to move on and focus on something new.”
“Given all the successes achieved at TikTok, I finally feel that it is the right time to move on and refocus on my entrepreneurial passions,” writes Pappas, who will remain with TikTok as a consultant. “Few could have imagined what the past five years would be like, and with all the incredible innovation happening now with generative AI, robotics, renewable energy, genomics, blockchain, and IoT, it is clear that the future will be very different once again.”

Before TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew dominated headlines due to the company’s conflict in the United States, V. Pappas was the visible face of TikTok both in the U.S. and throughout the Western world. The executive was responsible for making company announcements and discussing TikTok’s future strategy, always maintaining a good relationship with the press.
According to The Verge, Pappas will be replaced by Adam Presser, who previously served as TikTok’s Head of Staff. Additionally, Zenia Mucha, who has two years of experience working for Disney, will be the next Chief Brand and Communications Officer for TikTok.
With a potential ban on TikTok in the United States becoming increasingly tangible, Pappas resigns at one of the most critical moments in the company’s history. Previously, Pappas worked at YouTube for 8 years, rose to become the General Manager of TikTok in 2018, and served as the interim CEO of the company from 2020 to 2021 before being appointed as COO.
